    Is it just me.....

... or does anyone else perceive a little old fashioned racism in that this story was in so many media outlets?

It is like one of those dotted pictures where unless you know what you're looking for, you won't see anything.

Alice, sometimes black people are called "coons." And it's not a compliment. It's like jungle bunnies. Or spearchuckers.

forget the stupid racist angle, what about trapping the poor raccoons with peanut butter. They might catch salmonella and die, so much for catch and release.

It was one of those two-fers, insulting black folks and the Irish at the same time.

I feel like I just got to the party and all that's left is the shwag at the bottom of the keg.

This thread would've been different had IntheNet started it, that's for sure. Then again, I apparently missed some good stuff.

I suppose if Hillary had been elected there would've been articles about beavers in the West Wing.

    What?

There was a restaurant here in Portland called Coon Chicken Inn. The facade was a giant black man's head in a porter's cap. You entered the building through his mouth.

At some point, it changed its name to Clydes and removed the giant head. We had a celebration dinner at Clyde's the night before the inauguration. It just seemed appropriate somehow in a defeating racism-type sense.

This isn't Houston, he's got plenty to eat without having to kill the local critters.
