http://www.realmadrid.com/web_realm...icia.jsp?idnoticia=43274&sec=1&subsec=0&esp=2 This hasnt really been mentioned on the board as it should, all this talk of a crisis sort of spoilt the celebrations. The 29th October was Raul's 10th anniversary with Madrid, and what a wonderful 10 years its been 3 champs lge 4 la liga top ever scorer in champs lge spain all time top scorer http://www.realmadrid.com/web_realm...llenoticia.jsp?idnoticia=37098&sec=4&subsec=3 and more....at only age 27! its incredible really, and i think his first touch and shot which led to ronnie's goal against Getafe just made us remember the magic of the last 10 yrs
Re: Raul Gonzalez Blanco - 10yrs of Legend You're right, gazzad. Raul very much deserves the celebrations for all he's contributed to Madridismo. The best part is that there's still more to come.
Re: Raul Gonzalez Blanco - 10yrs of Legend all i can say is, what a player, what a guy, what a legend! the term legend is thrown about too much in todays game! in many clubs playing for a couple of yrs makes you a legend, but look at the achievments of the likes of Carlos, Zizou, Raul this is the definition of a Legend!
10 years, and he's got quite a few left... Incredible. Here's hoping he adds to that trophy cabinet this year.
Raul Madrid -- probably one of the club's most legendary players, and still only 27! He could slump for this year and next, and still would be one of the greatest players ever to wear the white shirt.
I was fortunate enough to see Raul play in person at the Bernabeu. I was in awe. Two mediocre games from the 1997-98 season, 1-0 vs. Mérida and 2-1 vs. Espanyol, but Raul was by far the brightest light on display. Love that guy.
10 years??!?! and he's only 27? salud and cheers to another 10 more, no? hope he gets a Euro Cup before he retires...
What always impresses me about Raul is his attitude. When he goes through the rough patches, he doesn't blame any one else. Raul just keeps working as hard as he can. He is not the fastest man on the pitch, nor the strongest and not even the best ball handler. But Raul has the magic, the genius of being able to read the game & make something good happen. Truly an extraordinary player.
Football and Identity by Phil Ball I went to a talk in Bilbao last summer about 'Football and Identity' in which the English historian Duncan Shaw and El País journalist Santiago Segurola both articulated their theories about what constituted 'identity'. Shaw thought that it was an accumulation of things - like the team colours, the location of the stadium, the team's preferred style of play and so on. Segurola saw it as something more political, where a team's identity (like that of Athletic Bilbao) was written in cultural stone, and could therefore not be tampered with. http://soccernet.espn.go.com/feature?id=315050&cc=5901
