Ghana, Round of 16 Referee: Kassai (HUN) Assistant 1: Eros (HUN) Assistant 2: Vamos (HUN) Fourth Official: Hester (NZL)
Re: Analysis: USA-GHA - Kassai (HUN) Don't remember him from the BRA-PRK game, but that game's thread has to be the shortest one on this forum (no complaints at all). Sounds like he had a solid match, with an assist to Brazil and N. Korea's fair play. Let's hope the U.S. finally gets an A performance from a ref
Re: Analysis: USA-GHA - Kassai (HUN) Exactly. He's 34. I'd wager this is his last match at WC10. But it's also an audition for the semis at EURO12 and to be the top UEFA referee by 2014 or 2016 (though, as always, he'll have some stiff competition). This is a guy who is clearly pegged to work a UCL Final somewhat soon. Of course, he's got to nail matches like this one... All in all, very happy with the appointment. Going into this tournament, De Bleeckere and Kassai were the two referees I'd most want to see on US matches of the ones possible (as I don't think Webb would be on one of our matches).
Re: Analysis: USA-GHA - Kassai (HUN) Other than Coulibaly, I've been very happy with the referees assigned.
Re: Analysis: USA-GHA - Kassai (HUN) And if they advance there is at least a 50% chance that the USA can't get Larrionda either. Its a cruel bracket for the South American officials with possibly CONMEBOL teams participating in all 4 quarterfinals. That could also be troubling in that there will have to be more reliance on CAF officials used if the pool narrows to eliminate all the South American officials.
Just tell me these guys will have the testicular fortitude to call a fair game against the last African team in the tournament.
Already two yellows to USA players, and they can have no complaints about either. Cherundolo in particular decided the best way to breakup an attack was to step on an opponent's calf.
Kassai has called a good and fair game so far. USA can't complain since most refs would have given a red card to Ricardo Clark instead of a yellow on that ridiculous slide tacke.
Solid first half from Kassai, but I'm expecting the second half to get difficult if the Americans become frustrated. He'll have to be sharp.
Clark got the ball. It was pretty similar to the play that took down Donovan where the player got the ball and then cleaned out Donovan. Don't have a problem with Clark's yellow, but be consistent. Also Kassai needs to get out of the passing lanes. He's been too good of a 2-way defender.
That YC to Ayew was wrong, there was no contact whatsoever. In any case it could have been a YC for Altidor for diving...
Ayews leg hit Altidors foot which hit his other foot and he went down. It's a yellow card and it's a good call...they replayed it in slow motion don't listen to Harkes anymore.
Looked like there was contact on the side camera angle. The multiple uncalled fouls committed on Donovan are getting to be a bit much. At least Kassai isn't getting in the way as much.
