This referee won't give Ronaldo a foul if he was hit on the head by a sledge hammer it seems,Proverbially speaking.

Baldassi's on top of every play. Damn, he's putting a lot of miles out there.

Ronaldo got a "slight" shove in the 86th minute just outside the penalty area, but if he didn't exaggerate it so much, he might have gotten the call.

Well. Did we just lose another Semi contender?

Have FIFA put a cap on TV replays of decisions as well?

Watch the replay at 88:44. Completely wrong decision. (I think).

Don't think so. The final replay from the far angle seemed to show an actual elbow. Not only that, but...

    A) Portugal really didn't complain much at all, and not many players would walk off the field that easily for a phantom elbow

    B) I've only seen Baldassi a few times ever, but he doesn't seem like the guy that wants to show a lot of reds nor the kind that would sanction violent conduct unless he was 100% sure.

I think it was a good call. But I could be proven wrong.

The initial replays were not kind at all to the decision to show Costa red...there was a wider shot but I am watching on a stream at work and the quality was not good...did anybody see what he did to get sent off?

Still don't see it, but why would he risk the fake at that spot as a defender.

all the close up replays I saw on line/live seem to be just after the "elbow"

Don't have DVR at work. The final replay from the wide angle?

The ESPN3 close replays of the red picked up the action too late, and I couldn't see clearly on the longer shot.

The replay i saw showed the Capdevilla getting up and then again going down as soon as he saw the referee was about to take action.

Did the referee fall for it? I sincerely hope they take action on capdevilla after the game.

Yep, the only early replay was from a distant overhead shot, seemed to show an elbow as the Portuguese defender maneuvered past the Spanish player's right arm and lifted his own to jockey for position.

They showed a replay on ESPN feed, it was after 3-4 replays that didn't show anything at all. But then they showed one sveral seconds earlier and it looked like a blatant eblow.

Saw that, but the timing of the whistle and crowd reaction seemed to indicate the red was already out. Guessing, though.

Nope. It was the 2nd one. Costas elbow was down. If there was contact, it was the Spanish players chin hitting Costa's left shoulder.

I loved how they just showed two replays after a major decision.

I would not be surprised if FIFA had a word with the television producers after the fiasco a couple of days back.

The one thing I did notice is that the CR had a direct angle and a clear look to see whatever it was that he saw, and he did not hesitate on the whistle or the card. So, I appears he was convinced that he knew he was coming with a red card.

Television replays are fine, its the ones on the stadiums that are the problem.

Also, from the one replay I saw, I thought it was an elbow, but it's hard to tell. Maybe a better replay will come up.

worst refereeing performance in the tournament, worse than disallowed goal of England. England's was just one possesion, referee might make mistake there.
But in this match, referee was totally biased against Portugal, had many mistakes against Portugal in many positions, Spanish players just dived in and he could not see, he did not call fouls against Ronaldo too.

For a very long time I didnt see such a bad referee in world cups.

Seems Villa was very marginally offside for the goal.

So I have the spanish goal on freeze frame, and I am now:

    a) quite certain that Villa was JUST offside
    b) That the AR is 3/4 of a yard too far up the field and so that Villa would look onside
    c) The AR has 4 players directly between him and the slight touch
    d) the CR has 1 player directly between him and the slight touch

So when combined, it is unclear if they see the slight touch on the ball and even then it is soooo close that not calling it seems fine.

Just saw the Busquets like acting from Capdevilla. Wow.

Probably a red, still, but wow.

Seems Baldassi got the red card wrong After seeing more replays.

Costa raises his arm to protect himself and with the slightest of brushes(even if it was that) Capdevilla goes down.

From the other angle it looks like an elbow but there was hardly any contact and capdevilla faked it very well and at the right time.

So it seems that we may have lost another contender for the semi's ,though this would not be a blown out issue like the other two neither was it a game decider.
