For what stage will NZ call up Nelson, Oughton, & Elliott?

They would probably need all three players for stage 2.

    Canadian_Supporter,

Since there's a wide gap between AUS/NZ and the rest of Oceania, unless the domestic Kiwi players are useless, I'd suggest these 3 players would be needed only for the two home & away playoffs against AUS.

The 3 players should already be in austraila by now. nike have screwed by the NZ kit, the away colours are blue and red and it looks horrible, black is always the best colour, but the home kit looks alright, white with black trim as you said, what does the new austrailan kit look like, I dont think the matches will be shown in N.Z.

Open the main photo in the body of the FIFA site and click on the 1st photo (of Stan Lazaridis defending against Serhat Akin of Turkey).

    And so the hype begins....

Australian soccer coach Frank Farina said his team would not under-rate New Zealand when the sides met in the opening match of the Oceania Nations Cup in Adelaide on Saturday.

"They will be, as they always are, very competitive, desperate to cause an upset over Australia," Farina said today.

"I am expecting a fired up side who will desperately want to beat us."

The Australians were to assemble in Adelaide tonight after announcing their squad this morning, while the All Whites team for the match are due to be named tomorrow.

Australia will be strong favourites for the match, but Farina's comments today indicated they will not take the New Zealanders lightly – as they were accused of doing when the All Whites beat them 1-0 at Auckland two years ago to qualify for the Confederations Cup.

The Socceroos have had the advantage of two games against Turkey in the past six days, while the All Whites are coming into the game fresh.

The Turks won both games, but Farina said his side would take heart from the number of opportunities they created, even though they couldn't take advantage of them.

He was not worried that the All Whites and the other four teams taking part in the tournament had been able to see their playing style.

"You can't be secretive all the time, most probably you'd end up never playing. . .but the question they'll have to ask is they know what they are doing, but can they stop us?"

He said the All Whites' strength was their ability to play as a team.

"Collectively they have always been strong and that is what has caused us problems in the past."

He said that was not to say New Zealand did not have fine players individually, but that was not how he as an opposition coach looked at them.

"I think as a unit, collectively, they work very hard together. They work hard for each other and that's what wins them games and that's what causes teams problems.

"That to me is New Zealand's major strength and we've got to match that intensity, match that commitment and that desire. If we do that, hopefully our class will come through in the end."

Vanuatu, Solomon Islands, Tahiti and Fiji are the other teams involved in the tournament, with each country to play five matches over nine days.

Australia today included injured goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer in their 21-man squad for the tournament.

Farina said he was confident Schwarzer would be available for Saturday night's match, despite Schwarzer injuring a hip against Turkey.

Australian squad: Paul Agostino, John Aloisi, Marco Bresciano, Tim Cahill, Scott Chipperfield, Simon Colosimo, Ahmad Elrich, Brett Emerton, Vince Grella, Zeljko Kalac, Patrick Kisnorbo, Steve Laybutt, Stan Lazaridis, Adrian Madaschi, Jade North, Mark Schwarzer, Josip Skoko, Mile Sterjovski, Tony Vidmar, Max Vieri, David Zdrilic.

True. You are probably right.... but as a Canadian soccer fan I have learned never to take anything for granted. The life of a Canadian soccer fan is not an easy one... :(

    Canadian_Supporter,

We have close similarities over here.

AUS (officialdom) took NZ less than seriously last time and an inadequate team lost to the Kiwis, along with a subsequent attendance at the confeds cup. Caused the AUS team, country and region quite some pain within FIFA later (when FIFA gave OFC the shaft).

    :(

BTW, I think Canada should be the next CONCACAF host for the WC, not the USA nor Mexico.

This is the Aussie starting 11 for the NZ match.

For the eastern US the match times (unfortunately) are
    12:30 am, 4 and 6:30 am
Someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. Looks like following these matches will be a little tougher for those here in the States. I've found a possible audio link for the AUS/NZ (don't know about any other matches)

    http://www.3ak.com.au/pages/listen.html

Anyone with any other media/audio/etc info would be highly appreciated.

Looks like the Solomons are up 1-0 after a 2nd half penalty. About half an hour left.

Andy, my wife and I just checked the TV listings, and no one's got live TV on the Socceroos-All Whites clash in Australia. Not SBS, neither Fox Sports channels, no one at all. :(

However, for anyone in Melbourne, SEN sports radio (at 1116 on the AM dial) has the game live.

I'll check and see if they webcast.

SEN are webcasting the game at http://www.3ak.com.au/pages/listen.html.

There are covering the English First Division Playoff at the moment but they are about to switch to the ANZAC match.
