For those of you who are not familiar with the Philadelphia Falcons, they are a Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender (GLBT) Football Club that will be representing the city in the GLBT Games the following weekend in Argentina. Their final warmup game will be against us. Last season, they posted a 2-4-1 record in the CASA Tercera (3rd Division).

Starting lineup will be announced by Sunday evening.

I will be posting directions to the field as soon as I have a free moment.

    Sons of Ben
    SoB FC
Is by FAR the greatest club
    The world has ever seen!

Re: Sons of Ben FC v. Philadelphia Falcons: Sat, Sept 8th 10am

I am concerned about our midfield and backline. Our small-sided mini-tournament exposed some weakness in the back. I imagine if we will be exposed anywhere in this game it will be at the back. As long as our transition is true, I can imagine some of our front liners making it look pretty.

From Futbolito I learned alot of what I need to do to get back to where I used to be. But we need communication!!!! I think we also have more of a concern about our midfield.

    Is JT playing?

This also gets me thinking if we have 2 games to play that day who pulls double duty?

I think with Davey in goal we'll have plenty of communication.

The thing to be really careful about when making substitutions is that you know exactly where you're going.

I yell A LOT. Some defenders like that, some hate it. If you hate it, sorry. Deal with it.

I will be sending an e-mail out to the team with all the info from the first post in this thread within the hour, for those of us that don't go on bigsoccer.

That does sound way gay, but seriously are we going with a 4-4-2 or what? I think if we don't get together and play soon we need to at least have a strategy session online or something.

    You need clinical finishers.

I just wish I had the kind of schedule to allow me to join the squad this season, brethren! Play well!

Re: [R] Sons of Ben FC v. Philadelphia Falcons: Sat, Sept 8th 10am

I'm so pumped for this game. I haven't played a serious game of soccer in almost two years (yikes!) and can't wait to get out there. As chance would have it, I played for the Falcons that day, suffering an injury that's kept me out since.

I think we can expect the Falcons to be well organized with some very experienced and fit players. They practice twice a week year-round and participate in various tournaments and leagues. But, they are also likely to have a few players who are very raw or over the hill. When I played with them, it was a very competitive group, but also mostly very fair (with one exception).

As far as strategy and positions goes, it seems like it'll be hard to tailor things to fit our players because we'll be forced to sub frequently to stay fresh. We could just rotate out as needed, but that would mean a constantly shifting formation or way-out-of-position players. Can we stay organized enough to only sub in to positions we're best at? Any suggestions on this and managing when players come out? It sucks to be stuck on the sideline while exhausted but stubborn players refuse to come out.

    I like the

    5 - 3 - 1 -1

The one up top is a cherry picker :) Barely on-sides of course.

dave, don't forget big george h who will be back on defense. that guy's effing hooge! hell, even my missus wants to play a bit of the centerback position (as a sub) ... she's petite, but she's fast as greased lightning and aggressive as a pitbull (stay away michael vick).

i know we're talking about getting there 30 minutes prior to gametime ... perhaps a good 45-60 minutes prior would be best, especially for our inaugural match.

    no, he is not.
2 games to play, in the CASA league? i don't forsee that happening at all.

as for subs, everyone needs to know what position/role they're playing. if a defender wants out, one of the defender subs needs to jump in ... same goes with midfielders and forwards. we have unlimited number of substitutions, at pauses in the game, so we should use them frequently and quickly, to keep everyone's legs fresh.

also, EVERYONE needs to bring a signed copy of the WAIVER with them at the first game on the 8th, or the first game you attend, whichever comes first.

sadly, i understood that. however, league rules state you cannot substitute unless there is a pause in the game.
