I just checked the Casa site and our schedule and it looks like this Saturday's game is versus Haggard fc who is 2 and 0 and looks pretty good based on goal diff. We def should try and get a practice in this week. It can only help come Saturday.

I'm also wondering if we should move into a 5-man back line, 5-4-1 or 5-3-2 or some modification of those?

If we can figure out who Colin whatever is and just mark him hard we could be alright, he has 3 goals in one game and two in another

honestly I think playing them staright up with a speedy man marker on their best player and everyone else in a traditional formation is the best way to go. remember that despite the fact that it is competitive, we should always but our best foot forward - these guys should be cheering side by side with us someday.

Thats why marking Colin whatever is key, and I think I'd like to move to forward, it went well when I was up there, and without that BS offside we would have had a 1-0 win

There was also a very clear handball in front of their goal from the sweeper, not saying it was intentional but very obvious to us on the sideline, and the ref ten yards from the play should've seen/called it.

And on offense I think we'll be better if the mids/backs played the ball into space and let the forwards fight for it rather than trying to string together passes like we have been.

I (#4) love the challenge of marking the other teams best player, so I'd like a shot at him. I don't change directions all that quickly, but I do have some speed and stamina so my game would be to harrass him constantly to deny him the ball. Unless he's really small and shifty, I think I could do it.

Who marks him and how somewhat depends on what type of player he is. If he's the midfield playmaker, a dedicated marker/destroyer makes more sense. If he's an opportunist who poaches goals, it might be harder to keep track of him and be there at the right time to stop him.

Yeah, we had some success with that late against the scrubs. It helped that they seemed pretty slow to come back on D by that point.

In the second half of both games, I've had some success working with a forward and central mid moving the ball up the left flank with short passes, throw-ins, and then a leading pass down the line. What I can't figure out is why this didn't happen at all for me in the first half of both games when I was on the right. I'm guessing it's the other team's fatigue and possibly that the best attacking players (not dedicated to defense) in this league choose the right side.

In general, I think we might be better suited to using the flanks if we're going to pass the ball up since we may not have the ball control and coordination to make it through the more crowded center of the field. Then again, I'm a tactical novice who was more focused on catching his breath than watching the dynamics of the game, so feel free to critique my theories.

I thought the way we were playing was showing signs of sucess. I think if we marked their ace, and played in a simliar manner like last game we will be more sucessful. We havent had much of a chance to play with eachother, but there were some good plays starting up. I think more of those will come with practice.

If we're looking to hit early crosses or some deep balls for the forwards, I can play out on the right or left mid. I love to feed the ball in. I started there against the Scrubs, and then moved to the interior midfield towards the end of the game. I really think we were having success with the long ball strategy.

Haggard has played the bottom two teams in the table. I think we are better than both of those teams, having played with one of them.

What team did you play with? I think we'll be good this weekend. Just need to find a way to get some goals.

Could anyone give me a ride from the Frankford Transportation Center? I take the El to get there, but the available bus comes very infrequently meaning I'll either arrive way early or too late. The FTC is at Frankford and Bustleton, which is a short drive from the field. The El arrives every ten minutes, so I can meet you whenever is convenient for you.

If you can do this, please PM me for my cell number
    Thanks!

10:45 sounds good. by the way, there are regular pick up games at Penn Academy every Thursday night around 8:30. Seth, Niko, and I went last nite and it was a decent run, nothing great but we got to play for about an hour. Definitely something we could try and do regularly.
