NEXT GAME: Saturday, September 22nd at 9:20AM Field 8, Pennypack Park Hopefully we can play well with the lack of practice time we've gotten. At the very least everyone has been training on their own and knows a bit more of what to expect the second time out. COME ON YOU SOBS!!! Pennypack on the Delaware (Directions under the aerial photo): Tom's Driving Directions from Center City and West Philly. Take 676 East (aka the Vine Street expressway) to I-95 North. You can easily get on 676 East from the 30th street station area. Then follow the I-95 North directions below. Tom's Driving Directions from I-95 North Coming from I-95N the Cottman Ave. Exit 30 becomes Cottman ave and heads west. Turn right at State Road, which is the first stoplight. Strategy: 4 - 4 - 2 with a sweeper. Subs: Heavily in the first half so we try not to be dead by the second half. Also Players should not try to stick with midfield and/or defense. I know some people can play both and should try to, so we can possibly keep from everyone wearing down in the second half. What are your thoughts, suggestions.
I like this idea. I think the sweeper worked well towards the end of the game last time. More importantly we need to make sure we play well positionally. We haven't practiced together so it's important to hold your position so people know where to send the ball. Plus last time we got wayyy out of formation, we had 4 or 5 guys defending in our 3rd, and 5 or 6 guys way up in the attacking 3rd, with no midfield. I really think we'll be able to put forth a better effort. As solid as our keeper is, there should be no reason with a little extra defensive effort we can't keep them out and push forward for some quality opportunities!
Seeing as my time to edit this post expired, I just wanted to ask what time we should try and be at the fields for the 9:20 start?
I know it's early so 8:45 would work... I will be sending out an e-mail to the team as soon as the SoB webmail server is back up and running.
Uh oh that raises an interesting question... how many more J-SoBs (stands for Jewish Sons of Ben, of course) do we have? Is this going to be a problem for saturday?
Dilion is out (Have fun drinking) Seth is out Delco_doug? (reading through other posts he said a possibility) Who else, I know we have a couple of youth coaches that can't make any until October 13th. I will be there... possibly not awake until the second half though
As long as I don't have a 9:20 game as well (captain hasn't said anything yet) I can come out and help as a guest player if you guys need any extra help. Just let me know. Of course depending on what time my actual game is will dictate how much I can play (can't go running a full 90 and then play in a game at 11, that might make my team angry with me).
Being that the scrubs were put together from free agents, we definitely have a team to play against this weekend? and how many players do we have for sat. morning?
We should have as many players as we did for the first game. We have at least one new player (provided he pays) and a maybe one or two more from the "classified ad" in the SoB Newsletter (provided they pay).
Without further adieu I'd like to unveil the surprise I had been planning for our CASA jerseys... everyone knows by now that the official song of Sons of Ben is "Four Leaf Clover"... The clovers are sticking 1000000000% better than the jolly franklins did (which have since been sewn on by Bolton's wonderful mother). You don't have to worry about these babies falling off.
you must spread, blah blah blah. gorgeous, dave! absolutely stunning. with this and the JF on the front, we're sure to win the remainder of our fixtures (unless the 'other sports thread' rules apply here are well).
