Pretty good dribbler with decent passing range. Xu Xu is better technically in my opinion but is he better overall? Hard to say because they both play at different levels of Spanish youth football.
I wonder why Real signed Lin. I hope it isn't some promotional gig. Also, I watched some of Lin's highlights. He has speed, good dribbling, and can pass it a bit. He can score too.
Promotional or not, he must have had some promise. With their stature they have the pick of any youth player they'd want. It'd even look good on the Chinese team that produced the talent to give him up. That said, skill at the youth level seen on youtube isn't indicative of much. They're against much weaker defenders, and given more chances to shine by their team if they're head and shoulders above the rest. It's the drive to succeed that will determine whether he can make it or not.
If China had a youth player like Lee Seung Woo or Paik, I would know why a major club would sign them. Lin surprised me and given Xu Xin's Atletico Madrid stint, I was concerned a bit
Chinese-Japanese 18-year-old Takahiro Ko (Gao Yuyang / 高宇洋) led Funabashi City High School to the Japanese national championship this week and is currently training with Gamba Osaka, who are hoping to sign him to a pro contract. Known by "Yang" to his teammates, Ko is a box-to-box midfielder and the son of former Liaoning manager and ex-China international Gao Sheng.
Zij moeten het doen vanavond! Come on Vites! #Vitesse #wilvit #opstelling pic.twitter.com/kYUXby1zMa— Vitesse (@MijnVitesse) August 6, 2016 Zhang on the bench for the first match of the season against Willem II, with the 16-year old Mitchell van Bergen chosen ahead of him.
Van Wolfswinkel was chosen ahead of him as the striker. Van Bergen is starting over Rashica (who's injured).
I was under the impression that they will play up top with what was posted before. Guess it makes more sense given that Nathan is playing as well.
Zhang came in at 64' and played left wing. Had one chance with a long range header. Got good power but straight at the keeper. Otherwise had a couple bad passes and did nothing noteworthy. He is pretty limited out on the wing since he is not a dribbler nor is his passing range good. I'd expect him to continue being on the bench unless the coach likes rotating or they play 2 up front
As far as I know he has lived in Japan pretty much his whole life. China is pretty strict about dual citizenship even for minors right? Apparently he converted to a deeper lying role from a #10 type this season. Multiple J1 clubs are after him.
Chinese government only allows citizenship to one country, not dual. So if you want to be a Chinese citizen, you must revoke your other citizenship.
