Milan drew 2 - 2 with Sampdoria, having lead 2-0 at half time. The goals came by Jon Dahl Tomasson in the 37th minute and Kaka in the 43rd minute.

From what I hear Sheva/Tomasson played brilliently together and Crespo played bad once again. So I think that pretty much ends the striker competition. Sheva/Tomasson it is :) Rui Costa was fielded in Pirlo's role and played ok. He assisted on Tomasson's goal. Samp's goals were scored in the second half when Milan took out most of their starters. Stam played his first match.

After watching the match(I missed the first 10 mins.) here are a few observations:

    - Tomasson/Sheva works great. Their interior passing is superb.
    - Crespo might be finished. He is playing worse as the preseason goes on.
    - Rui Costa played good in Pirlo's role. His pass up the middle found Tomasson who easily rounded the keeper for the first goal.
    - Stam looked good in his first match of the year.
    - Kaka was superb as usual. His goal was slightly deflected but nonetheless it was still great.
    - Sheva wore the captain's armband in the first half(with Nesta and Gattuso on the field). Will he be the Rossoneri's new captain when Maldini retires? It appears so.
    - Sheva, Stam, and Kaka were subbed off at halftime. And with them went Milan's good play.
    - Serginho missed a pk to make it 3-0 by hitting the post. I was surprised Tomasson didn't take it.
    - Tonetto crossed to find Bazzani head the ball in the back of the net. Costacurta was in no man's land and Kaladze was too late to get Bazzani.
    - Flachi's goal was all Dida's fault. The shot was straight at Dida but the ball slipped through his hands.
    - Kutuzov looks like a real good prospect. Maybe it would have been better if we kept him instead of getting Crespo.
    - Serginho, Nesta, and Costacurta made their pks. Crespo, Pozzi, and Dida missed as Milan lost 4-3 in pks.

Sheva milan's captain? Galliani said in May that when Maldini retires Gattuso will take over the duty as captain...

I don't remember Galliani ever saying that. But if he did that it is strange then when Maldini and Costacurta are not playing Sheva is always first choice to wear the arm band. Gattuso did wear the arm band in the second half even though Costacurta played.

Same here, thnx for the link BTW,

Be cool okay? When the width starts dishing more crosses Crespo will get a chance to finally turn on the style. He's one of the best ariel strikers on the planet and I have no doubt he'll start delivering the goods in due time.

I agree he was very impressive however his attempts to immitate some of Pirlo's characteristics did have its short commings i.e long/stretching balls that were missed timed or over hit..also remember it was a friendly which means Sampdoria were not eagre to control Rui and try to kick his ass.

Watching him in his new Milan gear have me unique pleasure :D

Not exactly, remember Serginho and Cafu were still on and they were playing quite ok. What was really reasuring was watching Vikash showing his game and what he can do, I admit I was upset with this aquisition before (being that he's practically unkown) nevertheless I love what I see so far. Yes I agree in the 2nd what was really missing was "that last touch" but it still didn't prevent guys like Pozzi and Abate giving a great effort; trying to impress the coach no less.

I'd take Serginho over JDT 7 times a week and twice on Sundays.

Meh, its all relative right? Either you go for experience (the safer call) or try out the new blood (the gamble). Personally I'm happy with Crespo.

Really? Serginho does take a good penalty but he has missed his share of pks in a Milan shirt. Tomasson is Denmark's designated taker and I've never seen him miss.

Cause he never takes them. For Newcastle it was always Shearer and here in Milan its always gonna be Pirlo.

I was talking about when he played for Denmark. Tomasson did take one pk last year for Milan and guess what? He made it. I'm sure he probably took Feyenoord's pks as well. But I could be wrong.

What? Crespo's never been a great aerial striker. He's not bad in the air, but he doesn't like contact quite enough, frankly.

Saying something like this would mean to completey omit Crespo's Inter career. With Lazio he was slightly more timid but he did posess the grit and know-how to fend of defenders who would try to hold him down in the box. The end result would usually be a powerful header goal by Crespo because he knew how to fight and mangle himself out of contention; and not to forget the guy can leap like a frog, I mean have you seen him jump? Unlike Bierhoff (for ex.) who was a specialist in directing headers, Crespo instead tends to get on top of the cross and just power his shot downwards. Thats what makes him so valuable in dead ball situations.

Look, even at Inter, Crespo's strength was NEVER his aerial ability. He's not bad in the air, but he's not great either. Its not like he spent that much time at Inter that we can judge him by that period, too.

At Inter Crespo was pretty good in the air. Thats why everyone was so excited when they bought 2 wingers (Kily, Van Der Meyde). It meant even more crosses for Vieri and Crespo to put home.

Shevchenko and Tomasson have always worked well together. Tomasson seems to finally be silencing the doubters who claimed that he was merely an Inzaghi-lite, that he was like Inzaghi but not as good. Crespo is still new to the team and the structure. We can t judge him just yet, though this was a pretty terrible game from him, all summed up by his missed penalty. Rui Costa was alot more effective than i would ve thought in that position. Gattuso would be my pick for captain but we ll see. Tomasson should ve taken the penalty, but Serginho re-deemed himself by scoring in the shootout. Kaladze hasn t been as sharp since his injury at the start of last year and this showed in the game as well, so the summer hasnt helped him. dida had a poor game, but we all know he is madness-prone. He remains my first choice for keeper though, ahead of Abbiati. I was surprised that Pozzi had to take a penalty, he is too young for these responsabilities and if he had taken one in an official match, i would be furious with Ancelotti.

I saw the game on Canale 5.
