Manchester City Match Talk and Results...
[Announcer]It's Dickov againnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn! Oh, wait, he's playing for the wrong team. Damn![/Announcer]
So that's, what, no goals in 3 games? This is a trend that needs to end quickly.
You're forgeting the 3-0 at Newcastle! Thats 4 games! We were unlucky on sunday V Boro (bloody bogey side!!) The team played a lot better,Reyna had a great game,but...hands up to them...Boro defended well. Hopefully we'll find the goalscoring touch V Spurs tomorrow night in the Carling Cup!
Still nothing yet
Well, that's one back any how
Robbie Fowler graciously accepted an absolute gift from the Spurs' defense.
10 minutes left, and it sounds like it's all City right now.
Goaaaaaaaalllll finally Fowler 80th min off a bad clearance by keller. spurs 2 city 1 82nd min
At least that other lot are losing too.
I gather that the young Danish keeper (Ellegaard?) played in this one. Can anyone comment on his performance today 0r earlier?
Re: Oh well...
He's "one for the future"! Hasn't seen much playing time,he played 90 mins V Boro but,in fairness,he didn't have anything to do!! The irony is that V Boro, they had Carlo Nash on the bench..if he hadn't decided to leave us in the summer for 1st team football,he'd have been our 1st choice for the last 2 games & in with a real chance of keeping hold of his place!! Ellegard is a fuuny one...he's only young, but Kasper Schmeicel is getting great reviews & was on the bench on sunday (& I presume tonight) & seems to be making fast progress. I can see us getting a new 'keeper in january 'cos of Seamans indifferent performances,so maybe Ellegard could find himself surplus to requirements!?
Wow. This was the first City match I've been able to catch this season. Now that I have seen them I can understand the recent results (falling out of UEFA and the Carling Cup).
For those who have caught other matches, was the Everton match typical of other perfromances? Having City keep pressure in the attacking third without getting a goal.
I was impressed with Ellegaard. He came up big when needed. The framework helped him out quite nicely a couple times as well.
City: The everton game I feel at times they take too long to have a shot at goals when they're in the penalty box. But some of those shots that they took could have turned into goals.
YES. I couldn't agree more! Fowler was the only one who wasn't hesitating in front of goal...but, looking at the majority of his shots (with the exception of the nifty half-volley that slipped over the crossbar) he should have waited.
Not just at Everton. The hesitation has been endemic since the bore-o game. Granted, Boro defended very, very well, but there were times City just looked...uninterested. Especially noticeable in the first half.
I've been watching the Everton game on tape repeatedly (masochist). Nothing really happens. I hate to say that. Keegan's known as an attack-oriented strategist, but City--well, where's the attack? Clearly Anelka is off-kilter right now. Fowler's starting to show signs of the old Fowler, but then there are ten minute stretches where he disappears as though he's not on the field.
Watching the game again, it's amazing how truly slow and sloppy the midfield are. Barton and Sinclair just drag their arses at the worst times. It's especially noticeable on the two counter attacks in the first half. Oy.
I would love to see Anelka find his form again. No better game than the derby.
maybe it's time for Keegan to train the boys on mental exercises like changing their attitudes and being willing to play for the club.
You make some good points mate. The midfield is a problem & I have a solution....the lads I go to the match with may disagree, but it's all opinions, isn't it!? I'd make McManaman skipper & tell him to use his skill & experience to organise midfield. Ditain, most people would agree,is not a captain & should be relieved of the burden immediatly!Barton is City through & through & should be our anchoir for years to come (It'll be interesting to see him against Keane tomorrow!) With Macca dictating the attacking midfield this should leave Nic & Robbie free to do what they do best...hopefully punishing the rags! All we need to do then is sack the wing-back system so Sun can concentrate on defending & I forecast a narrow win for the good guys!
Given recent results and the fact that Keegan made no changes from last Sunday, I didn't find this result very surprising. Disapointing but not surprising.
I hope that they at least build on a better 2nd half performance for the future.
We seem to be having trouble defending from corner kicks and opposition free kicks within their goal range.
It's all very well
debating the finer points of your midfield, but the big picture remains unseen. With the exception of your little thug Barton, where was the passion? where was the fight? I've been watching Manc derbies for 30-odd years, and I've never seen you lot get turned over so easily, it takes all the fun out of beating you. When the heart of your team are aging scousers, thats when you know you've hit rock bottom.
Stockport Stockport give us a song
I wonder if Man City might play better in a 4-5-1 like Leeds is running, or a 4-2-3-1 like is common in Spain. As a US fan, playing as one of the two holding mids/windshield wipers might be Reyna's best role. It's what I've always wanted to see him play.
City - Charlton
0-0 about 30 minutes in. A couple of typicl remarks from the radio guys:
On Charlton-"We really haven't seen anything from them either".
"a very dull game"
