There's already a general WC thread, but figured I'd start this one as these two games are obviously of special relevance.

0-0 in both, not quite 20 minutes in.

Shit, if both these games remain draws we'll be playing Germany. But if Germany ties Ghana and Serbia beats Australia than it's 1) Serbia 2) Ghana

As long as Serbia beats Australia we can't play Germany. That is what I am banking on...

I'd rather play Germany than Serbia.

    That can't be true.

It's pretty close. Serbia would need to make up three goals WITH Germany winning for us to play Germany.

If Serbia wins, we probably get either them or Ghana.

ESPN's gamecast has an excellent "live" table for the group. Here's current:

    Code:
RK TEAM GP W D L GS GA GD Pts
    1 Ghana 3 1 2 0 2 1 1 5
    2 Germany 3 1 1 1 4 1 3 4
    3 Serbia 3 1 1 1 1 1 0 4
    4 Australia 3 0 2 1 1 5 -4 2
Sorry for formatting-- don't have time to fix it now. Bottom line is that anything can still happen. If Ghana and Australia win, we'd face Australia- that's a dream matchup for us.

    And yet it is!

    Current group:

    GHA - 4 pts +1 GD
    GER - 3 pts +3 GD
    SRB - 3 pts 0 GD
    AUS - 1 pts -4 GD

If Serbia wins, they go to 6 points. If Germany wins, they go to 6 and win the group. If they tie with Ghana, then Ghana ends in second with 5 points and Die Mannschaft goes home. If Australia wins and Germany-Ghana ends in a tie, then we get the Germans.

Yeah, I guess I should have thrown in the huge goal differential make up that has to occur with it. My bad

I'm wondering who we would fair better against, Serbia or Ghana? I would assume Ghana on paper, but Serbia have been struggling.

Still not true although would be tough to make up goal difference.

Ghana have looked good going forward - any team is going to be a tough out at this point.

1-0 Germany, beautiful long-range strike from Oezil. Ghana almost gets it right back but the header goes wide

Definitely do not want to face that given how much space we give up around the edge of the area.

So currently Ghana ahead of Serbia on total goals scored (and head to head if it ever comes to that).

    On pace for 2006 rematch.

Australia is having a few good moments - but it's been pretty dull affair so far.

Serbia looked the better team in the first half. Australia looking better in the second half. Cahill causing problems for Serbia. I get the idea there will be a winner in this game.

Serbia looks poor. I'd take them of any in this group but I'll take whoever we get.

    4 Australia 3 0 2 1 1 5 -4 2

This blows Australia out of the water- really no way they can make up the difference now. Question is, do we want Ghana (current results hold) or Serbia (Serbs win vs. Australia)?
