DC United won 2-1. halftime 1-1. Match switched back to GW's Mount Vernon campus due to torrential downpours. GW has a synthetic surface that holds up reasonably well to rain. Even so, large puddles formed up by games end. Goals: DC -- Stewart (2) Richmond -- Simmonds DC Lineup 3-5-2 (young GK, can't think of his name) Namoff Petke Reyes Dema Mckeon Olsen Etch Convey Stewart Quaranta subs: Eskandarian (for Convey, then played up front) Quintanilla (for Quaranta, played left mid) Stokes (for Namoff) Alegria (for McKeon) Woodworth and Carroll played as reserves for Richmond in the second half. Goals: 1-0 Stewart wins header in midfield and breaks for goal. McKeon (I think) sees run and sends Stewart in alone on Richmond GK. Stewart chips onrushing GK. 1-1 Richmond maintains possession around DC's penalty area. Simmonds collects on the right/top side of the area, cuts inside and curls the ball into the far post. 2-1 Ball played wide to Quaranta. Quaranta drives a hard ball into the box just past the stretch of Stewart's marker. Stewart deadens the ball and in the next stride slips it past the Richmond GK.
when all a few more guys are back i think thats basically what we should expect as a reguler line-up (nelsen, ivanov and rimando are the ones that couldnt play) beating an a-league team is not bad especially missing three starters and richmond is one of the best a-league teams there is.
Thanks for the report beagles3! It is good to read that Stewart got two goals! Seems like DC United is moving along nicely.
It's good to hear Woodworth and Carroll still in the mix. I also glad to hear that Q1 was involved. Much improved from last Saturday. How did the midfield hold together w/ Etch and then with the sub of Q2. I like Eliseo. I'd like to see him get more time.
Thanks for the report! It's great to see a positive result. Is the chemistry between Q1 and Earnie good, despite Tino's absence from camp? And, how did Q2 perform? Mark
Great, thanks beagles3! I like that starting lineup. Obviously if Nelsen, Ivanov and Prideaux are starting, Namoff isn't starting on the back line and we have a deep defense. I'm happy to see a 352 with 2 legitimate forwards. Santino did stay up top rather than drop back into midfield right? I'm glad to see Santino making precise crosses. Stewart is a good finisher, so it's good to see him start to find his rythem. As many of us were saying just yesterday, McKeon's passing ability makes him a good compliment at Dmid as Nelsen's backup. I'm in favor of adding him if he's not too expensive. (After reading the official scrimmage report, it appears Etch released Stewart on goal, not McKeon. But I still think we should add McKeon). It looks like our two goals came from a counter attack using speed, and crossing from the flanks. Neither was a particularly good option for us last season with no speed up top and nobody who could finish crosses. While beating Richmond 2-1 isn't necessarily an eye-opener, they are a good team and they always play us tough. But the way we scored is particularly encouraging. -Tron
Okay, I realized that after the fact, but can't I get in on the jokes with alternate spelling? Huh? No? Nothing? Sorry.
