2007 league status In 2007 there will be what looks like 13 teams in the league. Would they consider going to a single table format with each team playing each other 3 times or will they look to bring in a 14th team in time to start the 07 slate. If so what city would be most apt to get a team? Philly is my guess. Discuss.
Re: 2007 league status Why discuss here, when there are quite a few other threads already discussing this?
Re: 2007 league status I love it when people start a thread, and their initial post ends with the word, "Discuss." Is that an order? A plea? An understanding to yourself that your thread is duplicating others, and it's not strong enough to stand on its own? Re: 2007 league status for some reason i still think there will be a 14th team for 2007 a' la Real Salt Lake. I guess everyone here assumes BS posters know everything all the time. Its definitely not the case.
Re: 2007 league status I think it's a byproduct of Linda Richman "A single table is neither single, nor a table. Discuss."
This may have been said before, I didn't get to scroll through all the previous responses.. I say if you keep the playoff system, change it as follows: Make it three teams instead of eight. The top three clubs from each conference qualify for playoffs. The two top seeded teams receive a "bye" and an automatic spot in the conference final like in the NFL. This can be their reward for playing hard the regular season. Teams 2 and 3 play each other for a shot to play in the conf final, so they still have a fair chance at the championship, but the two top teams have the best chance. The higher seed gets homefield advantage, which is another way to reward the play in the regular season. There are less spots to fight for, makes the regular season count more, and the teams with better regular season records have home field advantage, and the very best teams have to play fewer games to win. Plus this means half the league qualifies instead of 2/3, which is too much. As for the championship game, I say play that in a neutral site, or do a two-leg format with away goals, to make it more exciting. Thoughts? Again, I'm sure this has been said before...
Re: 2007 league status Or the two I always bring up: 01.) Chivas USA is neither Chivas, nor USA. Discuss. 02.) The Honda Super Clasico is neither super, nor a clasico. Discuss.
It does sound good, better for the teams with better records, deservedly so. But less teams involved means less games means less money, and there's the problem.
Make 1 table, play each team home and away to determine who the league champion is. During the season, have certain weekends set aside for league cup matches (MLS CUP) which would be similar to the FA cup in England. There would be a League Champion and a Cup Champion. The league champion will qualify for the CCC, along with the Cup Champion, if they are both the same team, then the second place team in League will qualify....Or if theres more than 2 teams allowed to qualify, then there would be a playoff between the 3rd and 4th place teams in league...The way we do it now is very boring..needs a change
Re: 2007 league status Why do we drive on the parkway and park on the driveway? Who are these people discussing this...
Re: 2007 league status Why are we trying to save our national racehorses? I'm against money for canker research! Why are people worried about violins on television?
i would love the single table format. there just arent enough teams for a playoff, not even close to enough teams.
I would like to see a single table format with a split season. If different teams win the table each half then let them play for the championship. If not and the same team wins the table each half then they will be declared the undisputed champion of the league. This IMO will keep fan and player interest for the whole season.
Except for the 6-10 teams that didn't win the first table AND half way through the second table are so far behind that they don't have a chance to win the second half either. Aside from those, let's say, 64 games, it'll be great!
