Guys, please help if you can. I'm a bigtime MLS fan who hasn't missed a single televised game on ABC networks. I'm wondering what happened to Jack Edwards. I read on mlsnet.com days after the United/Metros game that Edwards was likely being replaced next season, but then he disappeared (except for that Revs local broadcast). I did notice he sounded agitated at the beginning of his last ESPN2 broadcast. I remember reading a lot of negative comments on his World Cup calling. Is that why he was replaced? Did MLS get rid of him or was it ESPN/ABC? Help me out if you can. Would appreciate any links provided.

Appears he may also be doing some matches for Fox local broadcats in the future. At least, I've seen him in a couple towards of the end of the season, so I imagine it could possibly continue.

    Long live Jack.

One person that has way too much sway in this world is Rudy Martzke of USA Today. He is the essesnce of why Jack got canned. His and his kind.

    Media blowhards.

That's what happens when the media can't complain about the WC and how bad the US is anymore. Gotta bash something.

well, "Mine eyes have seen the glory!" didn't do him any favors. It just did not evoke the same emotion as Al Michaels' "Do you believe in miracles?!?" - Jack's comment received more of a reaction of "WTF?" from me. However, I don't think that he did all that bad a job.
How Ty Keough is still around completely baffles me. How have the suits at ESPN not discovered the fact that Ty is a frikkin' moron? he should be the one to get tossed first.

Crewbash, I completely agree with you. Though Jack's comments are a bit off once in a while I do enjoy his enthusiasm. I'd even be as generous to stay that he does have the right idea its only a matter of time and probably more experience. Now, Ty Keogh, he is simply a moron. His coments are CONSISTENTLY dorkish and assenine. While he has not blundered with a "mine eyes...." isolated comment. He persistently makes the minor blunders that maybe the nonsoccer knowlegable might just perceive as a biased "typical" soccer dorky comment that gets passed on as "usual", but when poor Jack uses the "mine eyes..." comment everyone takes notice and he unjustly get the boot and not Keogh.

Bye the way... interestingly I have numerously complained to ESPN/ABC about Keogh inappropriate and brainless commentary. Yet, the man stays in the booth as if he is there to make sure he makes the greatest effort to turn off millions of potential soccer fans. Even at this Sunday's championship match he continued to skrew up from an MLS/Futbol P.R. point of view... part of his problem I believe, must be his defender backround. Somehow he always tries to justify ugly, defensive, anti-soccer tactics as something good...thats the LAST part of the sport MLS and US soccer need to promote as a positive part of the game.

Somwhere durring the game where it became evident that the game was going to be decisided with one goal. He almost tried to justify why championship matches typically end up being defensive stalemates which is not only untrue, but incredibly negative to the newly interested viewing soccer public viewing on national television.

I sometimes wonder what is ABC/ESPN's true goal is in televising MLS. With the total disrespect they have to the sport and its fans.

As for Keogh, I think its probably more productive to complain to Garber and MLS rather than ABC/ESPN about Keogh blunders which hurt the leagues efforts to popularize the sport.

PS: On a positive note, I think Eric Wynalda does sound pleasing. I appreciate his spontinaety, honest critizisms and occational attitude all which is in sharp contrast to Keogh. Though, right now the best American soccer anouncer, is DC United coach Ray Hudson. Should he leave coaching for whatever reason MLS and ABC/ESPN have got to get him back in the booth, and on national TV.

Forget Jack Edwards, how about the very under-rated Phil Schoen? Did quite a few MLS games, but I haven't heard from him lately. What's the story?

Call it the curse of Ty if you will. Anyone who works with that moron eventually is replaced and drops off the face of the Earth. JP, you're next. To paraphrase Charles Grodin in "Dave" - "Get out while you still can, JP"

Last I heard, he was announcing Sumo wrestling on ESPN. No, I'm not joking.
While I do appreciate his enthusiasm; I never liked Jack Edwards.

He is a perfect example of why most American sports announcers suck. He wouldn't shut the fcuk up! He would start talking about a quote from (insert USNat 's player name here) brothers bestest-friend meanwhile, he would miss a couple shot's on goal and a few of yellow cards. More than a few times I've seen a game where he got the player's names confused.
... the pass goes to Faria, err, I mean, Diallo...

Cangilosi was great during the World Cup and I'm glad he and Messing are local in the NY area. (1) They have the knolwedge (and the balls) to criticize officials and their own local players and (2) they know when to be quiet during a game. If Jack Edwards isn't on Soccer Saturday, then the rating for the MLS should greatly improve.
