Where are the fan sections in Crew Stadium? If anyone else is going where do United Fans normally sit? How long of a trip is it?
They usually sit the United fans in the corner behind the goal opposite of V-Army. For reference it is the section the Fire fans always sit in when they invade. A group of us are planning a trip to Cow Town when United comes to whip their asses. The Columbus games are on 8/21 and 9/25. Depending on traffic in and out of DC it is about a 7 hour drive. Their fans suck so it is easy to outcheer the whole stadium with a group of 10-15.
1. The Crew fan section is behind the goal opposite end from the large scoreboard and jumbotron screen. 2. Don't know where the DC United fans would sit, BUT... there are open seats all over this stadium. I went to the USA vs Grenada WC Qualifier game and there were less than 10000 fans in the seats. My sons and I were able to move to the seats of our choice (on the USA offensive side) for each half. Maybe more C-Bus fans will come out when they play DC United, but I suspect, that even if you are not seated with the Screaming Eagles and Barra Brava road team group seating, that you will be able to move near them if you choose to do so. 3. Think the driving time is about 6 hours.
We are from Columbus area. It should take you at the most 6 1/2 hours to Columbus. Visitors usually sit behind the goal box on the south end of the field. Do not sit in the North end or in sections 109-111. These are the nasty Crew fans. Just checked the stadium drawing - Visitors sections are usually 113-119. On the end under the big video board.
I am considering going to the 8/21 match. Thanks everyone. If others are going then let me know and I will look to get a seat in the same section.
From your profile it says you are from Balmer.. It will take just about 5 1/2 - 6 hours from Reisterstown.. I live in Ellicott City and made the trip back from the USA/Mexico WC qualifier in just under 5 hours 30 minutes (that with lunch break as well).. It's butt easy to get there.. 70 West to Columbus and then I-71 North (it's about two or three miles up on your left - you can see it easily from I-71)
It's a fun trip. The best part of it is when the Columbus fans get excited to see real soccer fans. Sachin
You guys may want to get your tickets early- the club has been advertising Adu's first game in Columbus ever since the beginning of the season. The game will most definately sell out, we just don't know yet if it will be on game day or before that.
I was at a game last year, and the United Fan sat where I was. Seriously, I thought I could hook up with someone, but didn't see anybody. I heard later that some folks were there, but they didn't come up to me in my DC Shirt and scarf, and I didn't see any other DC unis. I just sat behind the goal that DC was supposed to score in each half, but didn't.
