Give Owen 45 minutes, if he hasn't scored or impressed by half time then put Vassell on so he can have more of a chance to shine.
I`ve said before that it comes down to what kind of service the front man is going to get. If we`re going to put quality crosses and through balls into the striker then I`d prefer Owen to be on the end of them. If we`re going to hit hopeful 60 yard punts upfield and let the striker see what he can make of it (ala Hargreaves hoof upfield against Switzerland) then we may aswell put Vassell in there, he`ll make more of it. Sven will start with Owen though so lets see some quality service for him. Speaking as a Villa fan I`d give Liverpool £15m for Owen or alternatively £13m + Vassell, so if England are now relying on DV scoring the all important goals we`ve got some problems. Maybe a Croatian will kick the ball against him and it`ll bounce in, he actually gets a few goals that way.
Owen. he's a proven goal scorer, 27 goals at international level. He and Becks hit the back of thenet more tah anyone else in WC and EC qualifying. Give hm some time, especially with Rooney's performances taking some pressure off him, and he'll knock one in soon. It took him a while to score in 2002, but when he did it was in the game that really mattered. The football 365 mail box has a whole bunch of letter s about this at the moment, it is the measured and well argues ones that support Owen, the "talksport online" ones that want him dropped.
