Could somebody please help me. I am not very familiar with Holland, but I would like to find out more about its leagues and teams. Specifically, I am interested to find out what teams are in or around (within about an hour by car or train) Amsterdam in the 1st and 2nd Divs. Please include team name and websites. Thanks for your help and time.

the second flight is called gouden gids divisie

naturally you have AJAX (E) aka the greatest in amsterdam (www.ajax.nl, www.ajax-usa.com)

ADO den haag(E), AZ alkmaar(E) and FC utrecht(E) are very closeby, 30 minutes or less - i want to say volendam(E), haarlem (GGD) and heracles (GGD) are about this far away, but don't hold me to that

feyenoord (E - www.feyenoord.com), excelsior (GGD) and sparta (GGD) are in rotterdam, about 50 minutes away

vitesse arnheim (E) and RBC roosendaal (E) are about an hour away

Heracles isn't close to Amsterdam. It's at the German border. But this GGD-teams is about as close as Haarlem: Stormvogels Telstar (GGD).

So these teams are within an hour from Amsterdam:

    Premier division:
    Ajax (Amsterdam; www.ajax.nl)
    Volendam (www.fcvolendam.nl)
    AZ (Alkmaar; www.az.nl)
    ADO Den Haag (www.adodenhaag.nl)
    Feyenoord (Rotterdam; www.feyenoord.nl)
    Utrecht (www.fcutrecht.nl)
    RKC (Waalwijk; www.rkcwaalwijk.nl)

    1st division:
    Haarlem (www.hfchaarlem.nl)
    Stormvogels Telstar (Velsen; www.stormvogelstelstar.nl)
    Excelsior (Rotterdam; www.sc-excelsior.nl)
    Sparta (Rotterdam; www.sparta-rotterdam.nl)
    Dordrecht (www.fcdordrecht.nl)
    Den Bosch (www.fcdenbosch.nl)
    AGOVV (Apeldoorn; www.agovv.nl)

You can look here for the exact distances (http://route.anwb.nl) or trainconnections (www.ns.nl)

I'd like to point out there is only one Club that is worthy of praise, worthy of devotion, worthy of worship. That is the incomparable Red and White of Ajax. You may carry on.

PSV sucks, what have they done lately? Except manufacture players like the incomparable Swan Diva Ruud van Nistelrooij.

Ajax over allen. And it's not even close;)

Ah, another one of them typical Ajax fans who lives a million miles away and couldnt even find Amsterdam on a map.

Don't listen to him people. Ajax is a club for gloryhunters (though God knows why as they haven't exactly made an impact on international football recently). If you want to support a REAL footy club, your first choice would have to be Twente. Great atmosphere at home games, fans who'll support their team no matter what, oh and you'll also get loads of stress thrown in what with worrying about bankruptcy, your best players being sold off mid-season etc. What more could any footy fan want?

Ha! you call that stress !?! no no no...fighting against relegation for 10 years, and actually spending 2 years in the torture basement that is the GG divisie.....THAT is 'loads of stress'. ;) Come to think of it, only people who are really determined and slightly masochistic are fit to be a Groningen supporter....supporting other clubs is WAY easier, therefore Groninigen have the best supporters.....haha that's it!!

Just shows that there is more to a club than just winning. You learn to love because of the pain, and in spite of the pain.

Plus its the supporters of the smaller clubs that makes the Dutch league so great. They don't care if they are minnows, they want to beat down the big 3 one way or another.
