A few of us from Houston were thinking of going up there for the Red Bull vs. Dynamo game, most of us have family and friends up there. But I was wondering when the new stadium was going to be finished. Is it this year or next? I think it would be cool to go check out yalls new stadium, it looks like its going to be the best in MLS. Anyways, let me know. Thanks!!!

    It'll be finished next year.

However, since you're from Texas, you're probably a football fan, too, and in that case it's not a bad idea to see a game at Giants Stadium, if only because RBNY games are the only affordable games at the stadium. (Giants and Jets tickets are insanely expensive.) I usually buy RBNY tickets for ~$26 at the gate.

Last I heard (and anybody with more recent info, feel free to jump in), the opening date is supposed to be June 2008. This has been a really mild winter so far, so I hope they're ahead of schedule, but the way things work in New Jersey, I doubt it.

Actually JBeall it's July of 2008. But yes it has been a mild winter, so it could be June if we are lucky.

It sshould be finished in July 2008 or will the games start in July 2008?

If it is suppposed to be finished in July 2008 I doubt it will be open for 2008 Season.

i hope this is the LAST season proper football is ever played at giants stadium.... if the new stadium is open in mid summer 08, i heard mention of a "road to harrison" suggested instead of playing the first couple games at giants stadium..

all i have to say is that would be an unbelievable grass roots effort to attract some new fans be4 the new stadium opens ...

possible sites for 'road to harrison'

    1. central park (imported bleachers etc)- PLEASE LET THIS ONE HAPPEN..

    2. rutgers soccer stadium - aluminum bleachers create great atmoshere, even tho low capacity... saw a national team game there in mid 90s, great crowd, ithink they played saudi arabia... missed the metro open cup there tho..

    3. ehh - not too many others - maybe met oval?? i duno...

So far the only work that has been going on is the demolition, clearing and prep work. Supposedly the actual "building" of the stadium is due to start in February. At that time you'll be able to watch the stadiums progress via a "stadium cam" at www.redbullpark.com

I hate this trend of opening a few months after the start of the season... It ruined all of the "buzz" about both PHP and Toyota Park... a few weeks late (2-4 games on the road to start the season) may be OK, but these 10 week road trips, followed by two matches per week at the new stadium DOES NOT WORK... it completely KILLS the effect of a new stadium and, by the next year, you no longer have a new stadium to sell...

HDC and Toronto = the right way to do it
PHP and TP = the wrong way to do it

How will RBNY go (it looks like the wrong way:()

+1 I hate how it works in MLS hopefully we'll finish before that and we can play right off the bat with a normal schedule.

If I have a choice to start playing in a new stadium in the middle of the season, or spend $3 million and push the opening back a year, I think I would keep the money. The problem with your logic is that its going to be impossible to get this stadium fully up by April or even May. The timeline just doesn't work. Otherwise the team would opened it at the beginning of the season.

Look it happened to the Galaxy, FC Dallas & the Fire. So it's going to happen to us. It's worth the wait.

I personally am just thankful we have a stadium. For a long time it looked like we'd never close the deal with Harrison. Thank the soccer gods that AEG/Red Bull pulled through or we'd have been at NJSEA's mercy for all eternity.

Is there a camera/actual construction yet?

How can you say HDC right way to do it? We were on the road till late may or early June and had week after week of matches at the HDC all summer.

It was very similar to what happened to PHP and Bridgeview...

Your kidding right? If there is a way to delay this project they will find a way. Something like "we just discovered a rare white ant the construction will be delayed 60 to 90 days"

??? For someone who supposedly lives in the tri-state that response almost seems absurd.

Road construction, buildings, streets, WTC memorial, buiding to go up after it, parks, bridges, repair....

If you are not kidding then you just simply aren't aware because nothing has affected you yet, or you just don't pay attention.

The HOV lane on the LIE took at leat seven years to build....It was supposed to take 3. Just think about it things in the tri-state area just dont happen on time. Think about this new Giants stadium is supposed to be open in 2009. Its a much bigger project than Red Bull Park so it should take more than a year and a half. Construction hasnt even begun yet...

I flew into Newark a few weeks ago, and the construction site looks like it's ready for...well...construction. Looks like all the demolition is done, and it was just a big, flat piece of ground.

Delays - yes, pretty common for building big projects in the Tri-State area. You can't really argue against that. It sucks. There are too many snouts in the trough: the politicians suck, the unions suck...and everything conspires to delay things from getting done.

Also - the owner of RedBull said he wasn't particularly happy with how the progress of construction is going... so I would assume that there have been delays.

With that said...I'm still excited about the Stadium.

Thanks foe the update. Call me paranoid, but until I see heavy equipment on site setting the foundation I will still be a just a bit skeptical

Hard not to be. Fingers crossed. I will be going back home in April so maybe I can see some good signs from the air.
