A number of posts refer to OZ being a player agent and possibly having a financial interest in certain players' careers. I thought this was just a joke trying to explain why Klinger or Alvarez get playing time. But I've seen it mentioned so often lately (OZ representing his own players, OZ taking kickbacks) that I'm wondering if I missed something. Anyway, what's up with this?

Paul...That was Thomas Dooley and his agent when he used to play in the MLS?Nats. He was always trying to get his team mates to jump ship to Germany and the kick back was always under the table. Sorry to ruin anyone's preceptions of ex-idols, or the sanctity of the "beautiful" sport....cheers

  3. It's not that uncommon a practice in the world of footy. Nothing is done up front, but I remember a few years ago some coach (I forget who) was fired over it.

There were many reports of OZ getting kickbacks from the signings of Comas, Valencia, and Pedro Alvarez. If these were actual factual, then OZ had a lot to gain by putting these three useless bums on the 2001 squad.

Yeah the soccer press in New York was all over it.

The only "reports" I've ever seen were right here on BigSoccer.

George Graham got in trouble as a result of it.

    Wrong.
Those reports go all the way back to his time in LA. Rumors of OZ having a vested financial interest in a couple of his Galaxy players were flying even then; as for the 'soccer press', there was an excellent, extensive article on the last days of OZ in LA at soccerspot.com a couple years ago - unfortunately since that site has gone by the boards I don't know if it's still available anywhere. Yes, the atmosphere during the last days of OZ in LA came across as very similar to what's going on with this team right now.

i would love for someone in the local press to look into this and report about it....there must be a listing at mls or somewhere listing each player and their agent....

    1. it would be interesting reading even for a non soccer fan...."COACH IS PLAYERS AGENT?"

    2. it would assure the firing of OZ, the piece of sh!t.

Maybe we could all pool our money and hire a private investigator.
