I want to put up an "Award-List" on my german Clint Mathis-Fanpage (www.mathis44.de) but got a bit confused when I tried to gather the informations: his bio says he won the Honda MVP Award and the Budweiser Scoring Championship in 2000. Yet the MLS-Site names Tony Meola as MVP and Mamadou Diallo as Scoring Champinion (http://www.mlsnet.com/MLS/history/archive.jsp?year=2000&content=awards). Can someone help me out here please.

The MLS site is correct on both counts. Diallo led in Goals with 26, and Meola was named MVP.

Mathis did make MLS Best XI in 2000 (I believe for the only time in his career, he missed much of 2001 with an injury, missed a lot of 2002 and didn't play well when he did play, and was good but not great in 2003).

Mathis also won MLS goal of the year in 2001 (beautiful goal too).

His Sams Army bio says he was MLS player of the Month in June 2000.

On August 26, 2000 Mathis set the MLS record for goals in a game when he scored 5 against the Dallas Burn.

Mathis was the leading goal scorer for the US National Team in 2002 with seven goals.

He led the National Team in assists in 2001.

1993 Georgia High School Player of the Year. (from http://www.ussoccerplayers.com/players/clint_mathis/ )

I'm sure there are others, and I assume you could count things like being named to the World Cup squad as an award.

    Thanx for your help.

But is his bio (http://www.metrostars.com/yourteam/clint_mathis.shtml) incorrect then? or could it be that the MVP and Scoring Champinion are just "team-awards"?

The Honda Awards and the Budweiser award are separate from the MLS Awards. I believe the fans have a vote for the Honda Award (I may be wrong here).

Okay, did some checking (not a lot, I don't care THAT much) but you are both right and wrong. While the MLS MVP is the honda mvp, each team also has a honda mvp, and these team winners then compete for the league honor. Same thing applies to scoring champ, apparently.
All very odd, naming the awards the same. So, my guess is, clint was his team mvp.
Point to ponder, Preki is a 2 time mls honda mvp.

Just to add to what Voros said: Clint was also leading scorer overall for the MNT in 2002 as he tied for the lead in assists with 3 while playing three games less than McBride and 6 less games less (in minutes) than Donovanm numbers 2 and 3 repsectively on the scoresheet.

He leads the team in cool every year.

I think he might have led the nation in scoring as a freshman at SC as well, back in 96 or so.

Okay, now this is just sounding sad. I mean, the guy many of us prop up as the true hope of american creativity/finishing, and his resume is just sad. Not that the doritos thing isn't nice. ;)

Sorry - Beasley has taken over the "cool" award on the USMNT.

I agree and I'm a huge Mathis fan. It's one thing to piss on a Mexican field (sorry Donovan), but it takes real balls to piss on the field at the World Cup. :)
