I have a non-soccer related question for the Argentine fans out there:

I noticed that during your national anthem (and the USA one too) that your fans stood and clapped for about 30-45 seconds.

Why do Argentine fans do that? I'd never seen that before so it just struck me as interesting.

    Thanks,

    Sachin

no disrespect, but the chants and push does not stop.

I was in december in an international game in colombia vs sanlorenzo de argentina, during their national anthem, all the colombians sign outlaud our local song (others know it as a regional folk traditional song)........

I as couple of die hard fans in the stands, why? they just claim they (argies) do the same to us when we play in buenos aires.......

I hope that answers your question

Actually, it doesn't. I guess I wasn't clear... The Argentine fans acted exactly the same during both National Anthems. There was no disrespect or anything like that.

My question was a cultural question or something like that. I was just wondering if there is a reason for the applause.

not verancho my friend, it was REVANCHA!

They are in preseason and played 2games in a small tournament or copa de verano in ciudad Mendoza

boca won twice, the game you saw was promoted as the REVENGE, boca tied in the last minute and took the game and pride of las gallinas by Pks

    did you enjoy it?

maybe i'm missing a joke here, but I thought it was fantastic.

Sorry about my poor espanol. Reminds me of some times I got lost in East LA and basically had to use sign language to get back to gringoland. But I've met people who don't speak a word of English and been able to "talk" about soccer/futbol with them. It's a great game.

thanks for the info on the clausura as well.

    Midwest, the real one.
Or maybe you saw VERANO(summer), as in the Copas/Torneos de Verano, which is what all the preseason games are called.

Last year the big clubs played a bunch of triangulars, in which I think Boca & River faced each other three times I think.

This year they had a pentagonal with River, Boca, Racing, San Lorenzo, and Independiente in January. Following this there was the Challenge Cup(Copa Desafio) between River/Boca and then the Revenge Cup b/n the same two.

Also, Independiente and Racing(bitter local rivals) played the Copa Avellaneda(the municipality they are both from).

Of course all the other clubs are playing preseason games as well, but you won't hear much about these.

These summer preseason games usually take place in a neutral venue quite aways from where they usually play. For example, the Copa Revancha was played in Mendoza, a city in the western part of the country, which does not have a top flight team. So for many of these people, it is one of the few chances to see these teams play.

I have come to really enjoy these games, as I am surprised that they are very spirited games, being in the offseason and all.

As answered in another thread I think the applause signified as to how the US opened its doors to Argentine immigrants and our show of respect...
