Hello everyone, American Soccer Reader has brought U-23 goalkeeper Quentin Westberg on board as a guest blogger. Quentin will be contributing every other week, and will be open to answering your questions in each post. You can read it here: http://americansoccerreader.com/category/guest-blogs/quentin-westbergs-column/ send any questions/comments to Quentin@americansoccerreader.com This could turnout to be a big year for Quentin as he's been told by the new ES Troyes AC manager that he is in the running for the #1 goalkeeper spot.
I guess I must have missed it, but where does he say that the coach has told him he's in the running for the #1?
It's been reported in other news publications that hes in the running, and I think i heard him mention it in an interview earlier this summer.
Glad to see Quentin give a little insight to his world of professional football. While he's been a round quite a while people tend to forget he's a shade over 22. Very young for a goalkeeper. His best years are ahead of him. He will be interesting to keep an eye on this season especially he wins the #1 shirt at Troyes.
Splitting hairs here, but he wore the #1 shirt last year at Troyes but was, for all intents and purposes, the #2.
May be in the minority, but I thought that Westberg looked the equal of Seitz and much, much better than Cervi at Toulon.
I think that is a pretty accurate assessment. May be due to the fact Cervi has 0 professional experience and little experience playing for country.
Yes, if you are on the roster/depth chart that you are in the running for the starting position. That is why coaches have practices and that is why coaches love competition.
http://www.estac.fr/12-07-08-resultat-amical-metz.html Troyes went 0-0 in a pre-season match against Metz a few days ago (July 12 to be exact). Westberg went the first 45 before being replaced at the half by last season's #1 Cyrill Merville. Hopefully that means that Q has a shot to earn the starting spot.
The latest post is up. Quentin talks about preseason on the west coast of France, MLS and answers your questions.
