It is going to be a very interesting match day. Venezuela has played Uruguay very tough the last few qualifications. I would not be shocked to see them get points of some sort.

Ecuador also has played Argentina very close. They tied last time they played in Argentina.

Chile beat Bolivia last cycle. Not sure if they can do it again.

As for Venezuela's draw, at first I thought that it's a bad results but then again it means that now even Uruguay will have to battle. in my opinion only Argentina is 100% qualify, the rest will battle, including Uruguay. Argentina looked pretty scary vs. Ecuador and could won by much. Ecuador offense is very weak away from home and maybe Colombia, Chile or Uruguay can be much difficult opponent for Argentina, but no doubt that the Albiceleste are the strongest side in these qualifiers.

Chile won in La Paz and honestly lucky for us that we won there because I don't know who will lost points there vs. horrible Bolivian NT...Well, maybe Argentina who lost 2 precious points at home against them :D

    :D

I was thinking the same thing. Not many teams that will loose points over there...

I think we must at least get 4 points out of these 2 games in order to realisticly go to the WC. The points lost at home must be regained away. And the "easiest" teams to do that with are peru and ecuador. To demand victories away over paraguay/chile/uruguay/argentina is far more complicated.

IT is weird. Bolivia not only has beaten Argentina twice in a row in La Paz, they also have tied Argentina twice in a row in Argentina (Copa america and WCQ.)

I am not ready to say they will lose to everyone. They have shown they can compete.

I think the results, except the Chile victory were convenient to Colombia. Colombia must win as many games as possible and we must hope for every other team to earn 1 point at most. If Argentina breaks away and Bolivia proves to be a doormat so be it, but for the other teams is better if they tie between them and lose to Argentina and hopefully don't beat Bolivia.

Regarding La Paz, I think that it is a mental thing at the end and that Brazilians and Argentinians do really fear the altitude. Other countries seem to have an antidote that works for them and the one that really doesn't seem to acknowledge altitude as a factor is Chile, not exactly sure the reason why. Venezuela and Ecuador have won there but I would wish for Uruguay, Paraguay and Peru to lose points over there.

I feel confident that Pekerman will get us to brazil. If we managed to win inspite of playing pretty poor, things can only get better. However I hope that he'll find another CB and gets rid of yepes, we can't risk having him on the pitch when we play chile again. To me aquivaldo, zuniga and armero (in spite of his crappy game last night) are given...I think they should gamble and let bernardo play for yepes. I hope he picks up a second yellow so we won't have a "I told you so"-escenario come the chile game.

I'm glad I watched this match again. I remember thinking of Peru completely dominating. But in hindsight I realized a couple things. One, the expectations and need were high come matchtime. We needed the points badly and with 6 months of speculation we expected things to somehow be handed to us. We all expected the same play we saw vs Mexico. Well, reality is that we weren't playing under true pressure in that match. These qualifiers are what they are, mean and gritty. Peru had a span of about 15 minutes from about the 20 min mark, where they had opportunity and clearly had control of the ball. Some of that opportunity was also created by sloppy defending (the Carillo breakaway was a silly Armero miscalculation). Prior to that and for most of the second half, it was a match with poor decision making, ball control and effectiveness on both sides. Did we deserve to win. Probably not. However, we had enough merit to play as in a very difficult environment and with a new DT at the helm.

I did a match by match analysis.
    uru2-0peru, ven1-1chi, bol1-2par,
    Ecuador 1-2 Colombia

    Ecu2-0Bol, Per1-2Ven, Arg2-0Par,
    Colombia 2-2 Uruguay

    Par2-1Ven, Uru3-0Ecu, Per1-3Arg
    Chile 2 - 2 Colombia

    Arg2-2Uru, Ecu2-2Chi, Bo2-1Per
    Colombia 3-1 Paraguay

    Ven2-1Ecu, Bol0-2Uru, Chi1-3Arg, Par2-1Per

    Arg3-1Ven, Uru3-0Par, Per1-2Chi
    Colombia 3 - 0 Bolivia

    Ecu2-1Par, Bol2-1Arg, Chi1-3Uru
    Venezuela 1-1 Colombia

    Bol1-1Ven, Per2-2Ecu,Par1-2Chi
    Argentina 2-1 Colombia

    Chi2-0Bol,Ecu1-2Arg, Ven1-1Uru,
    Colombia 3-0 Peru

    Per0-2Uru,Chi1-1Ven,Par2-0Bol,
    Colombia 2-1 Ecuador

    Ven2-1Per, Par1-2Arg,Bol2-1Ecu,
    Uruguay 2-1 Colombia

    Arg3-1Per,Ven2-1Par,Ecu2-2Uru
    Colombia 2-1 Chile

    Chi2-1Ecu,Per2-0Bol,Uru2-1Arg
    Paraguay 1-2 Colombia
With these results which I believe are achievable, the chart would look like this.
These results rely on the continued downslide of Paraguay, which I don't see them coming out of, doing to their coach sucking, and their players being substandard. The majority of their European players have retired.

They could be better if Chile starts doing poorly, which is quite possible because their coach sucks and they were all hating on their defense against Bolivia yesterday, the only thing is that Bolivia this year is much worse than Bolivia in 2010 WCQ.
They don't count on Peru or Ecuador doing very well. Ecuador I can't see doing well because Rueda is shit. Peru I can't see doing well because a lack of players.
With these results Colombia needs to win 6 points away from home between the games in Ecuador, Argentina, Venezuela, Chile, Uruguay, and Paraguay to get these results. These could come from two wins or one win and three ties or six ties.
Even with only 3 points in away games we would still get these results.
Nonetheless for these to be valid we must win at home against Paraguay, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, and Chile.
Getting another 6 Points away and wins against at least four teams locally will ensure our qualification, even in fifth place.
