Depth , Depth is something that has always been lacking with our National Team. Well not anymore. Joao Periera is playing awesome with Benfica yeah he does not have Quaresema"s flair and moves but he works hard and get"s into postion to score goals. Benfica could have the best midfield in Europe soon with Tiago , Periera , Manuel Courto was one of the best players in the last world cup and Manuel Fernadez. So Midfield will be a battle to have a place on the National team. Oh by the way Braga Fans do not forget about the young Zidane in 15 yr old Bruno Gama
I love this. Anytime a young player has a few nice games, everybody goes annointing him as the second coming. A couple of points here: Quaresma has NEVER been a lock for the AA team. He is a fixture for the U21s, but it is just plain wrong to call him a lock for the AA side. Pereira is playing well for Benfica, but he has a couple of very talented wingers ahead of him at the youth level in Quaresma and Ronaldo.
who cares about flair, we need workers and players the can put the ball in the net, and it seems like Joao Pereira his doing it with 4 goals in the Superliga.
I never said he was the second coming the point i am trying to make is that we have choices so it"s not a lock that Rui Costa plays on the National team ( Costa has been a great player for us) and what i am trying to say is we finally have depth. So that if a Figo or someone of his caliber goes down it"s not light"s out.
we have to remember that the U21 will be playing for the Euro Cup two weeks before the AA Euro Cup, so the U21 will be without players like Quaresma, Ronaldo etc, its good to have players like Pereira, Danny, Lourenco, Paito cover for some of the guys will be with the A team. Scolari already said his going to take the best players from the U21.
I agree that Portugal needs and has depth. My point is that Pereira is not among the group of players who will even be considered for a Euro 2004 spot.
