This kid is goooood, but keeps getting tossed or yellow carded. Can anybody control this punk or will he always be a source of pain and 10 man team play.

My father had a solution for me when I was a young tack.

While Sonny still has some growing up to do, I think his disciplinary problems are more a byproduct of his enthusiasm, and not Punkism.

I'm happy to see him go all out for the team, as long as he keeps his wits about him.

Tossed? I don't think he's ever been tossed.

In 2001 he had one card and no ejections.

In 2002 he had six cards and no ejections.

    Are my numbers wrong?

I think he may be referring to the U-20s but I may be wrong.

First of all you should all get your facts straight. Santino has only been thrown out of one game and it was recently on the U20 qualifier in SOuth Carolina. Learn the difference between being a punk and a passionate player that leaves his heart on the field.

    He's a player alright.

He's also a punk at times. I can remember a couple of times last season where he made an ill-advised retaliation whack on an opposition player- could well have been red carded- but wasn't. Those were the obvious times. Less obvious (for all players including Tino except for Etcheverry) is when he lets either a reff's call or some player drive him into a pout, and thus loses his mental focus. Again, it happens to all players, but Hon needs to work on this aspect IMO.

Didn't he get thrown out of an Open Cup game against the Revs in 2001?

Etcheverry & Moreno got the red cards in the 2001 US Open Cup Semifinal.

That link contains my favorite Thomas Rongen quote of all time:

"Thugs like Pierce and others like that in the league are allowed to take free shots at (Etcheverry and Moreno). It keeps players of limited ability in the game and shortens the careers of better players. That is not good for the game. Limited players are getting away with murder."

    Preach on, brother Thomas.

Lest we forget -- it was one of the wanker Brian Hall's finer performances. Yeah, that's right, our famous FIFA ref. Pierce got away with a vicious. studs-up tackle on Moreno from behind at the eighteen in like the seventh minute or something. I'm not sure Hall even blew a foul. Just led me to believe somebody else was doing the blowing that day.

Jaime got a bum deal that day, but there is no excusing the lack of professionalism he showed earning his second yellow, leaving his team mates down two. I guess Jaime thought the game wasn't worth playing. Too bad his (former) team mates did. Another straw on a burdened camel.

Sorry. Rant over. Now back to your regularly scheduled thread.

    He's definitely a player.

    And if he's a punk...he's OUR punk!

I try really hard to like him because he's really very good. But I've been having some trouble with that.

I know, I know, he's a kid. But so is Bobby and I don't get the same "my poop smells like roses" vibe from him that I get from Tino.

What is he 17 or 18 years old? I was a rebel guy in those days. Needs a little maturing that comes with age. Punk can be defined as an aggressive player in your terms. Which is good.
