    Quaranta Injury (R)

Tino just went off just before halftime of the U-20 game vs. Haiti.

He has just scored the second US goal, when he was substituted after falling backwards after the shot and possibly injuring his wrist.

This is according to match-tracker. They are going to update his condition soon.

    :(

I hope it is just a precautionary measure.

So do I. Although it's so hard to gleen exactly how bad an injury is from matchtracker.

I'll update here if they say anything more.

    Holy alarmist post - batman!

Player subbed out at halftime of a 2-0 game against a week opponent for precautionary reasons.

Must create thread with "injury" in the headline in order to create widespread panic.

    True, it's somewhat alarmist.

He broke is left pinky according to matchtracker and may be out for the weekend.

Nothing too serious as far as DCU goes. Mostly effects the U-20's.

Sorry to get everyone worked up.

Q injured his finger falling after scoring the 2nd goal. He was shooting across his body off balance and fell kind of awkwardly jamming his hand under him. If you follow football, it looked like he fell similarly to the way Kurt Warner did to break his finger.
I would imagine he could play the rest of the tournament with it wrapped up and without any problems.

More odd was Convey not being able to play because of "passport" problems. What, did South Carolina seceed again?

IIRC in international tournaments all the players must have their passports as a form of identification.

Correct - that's so the host federation has no unfair advantage. Of course that didn't stop Australia from messing with American Samoa last year.

Santino's injury didn't look too bad, and it shouldn't be a major distraction for him. He may have to play with a splint or soft cast (assuming that doesn't somehow prevent him from playing for some obscure ref rule), and it probably will not be much of a problem for him.

Convey ... passport issue?!?!? Now that one is rich. At least it's not an injury. The one problem the U-20's had IMHO was that they sorely missed Convey. They looked solid on the flanks, Johnson (and to a lesser extent Santino) looked very good up top, and the back 5 (including the stellar play of Ricardo Clark at Dmid) looked freaking awesome. But, we were mediocre in the middle, and found our passing game consistently breaking down without a strong central midfielder. Grabavoy did play in the second half, but wasn't too impressive.

Passport problems? Get with the program son. Your mental game gotta be there too. No brain locks Bobby.

This reminds of the Olympics where a Boxer missed his boxing match because he missed a bus. Trained 4 years and qualified and the moment of truth comes and MISSES the bus to take him to the match! duh

Don't be so quick to blame Bobby. Consider Sandon's suggestion here ... https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=23691

Article from Charleston this morning had this to say about Q1's injury:

"Quaranta left the match with a broken finger immediately after scoring his goal. He was taken to a hospital where a soft cast was put on the injury. It was not expected to keep him out of the lineup Friday."

And here is what the article said about the Convey passport situation:

"The U.S. side had to contend with unsettling news less than an hour before the match when team captain Bobby Convey, who was expected to dictate the team's pace of play, was ruled ineligible when his passport did not arrive from his house in Washington, D.C. CONCACAF requires players to have a passport to prove their age.

"It was sent last Wednesday and it just isn't here yet," said Convey, a three-year veteran of D.C. United of Major League Soccer. "We talked with the people and they said a birth certificate would be fine. ... Then 20 minutes before the game they wouldn't let me play.

"It's really unfortunate. I feel like I let my team down." U.S. Soccer will try to get Convey a replacement passport today in Charleston.""

Ultimately this has to fall on our dear friends the USSF. Players should be concerned with playing. That is why the federation is supposed to have support staff. As the other thread stated before the players left for the camp they should have had a checklist. Boots, check. Jock Strap, check. Shinguards, check. Passport, check. Players have one purpose to play. Coaches and administration are responsibile to insure a players eligibility.

Word. It's not like this is a team of county all-stars or something. This is the U-20 NATIONAL team! At this level, certain things need to be taken care of by people other than the players.

I hope the person who mailed it used a reliable service like Fedex or UPS so it could be tracked. With the holiday on Monday I'm sure things got delayed in the regular mail.

Q's injury didn't look bad just ouchy (a trainer was trying to pull it back into place).

Perhaps Eliseo borrowed it to clear up his problems with the Salvadoran Federation?

Shawn got it right. I have been an administrator for some of USASA's teams (USSF Adult Soccer). The rule I followed was simple, "Keep the crap out of the way so the coaches can coach and the players can play".

The pass should have been picked up a week early and carried to the game site by an administrator.
