too bad we're just getting a draftpick

"The Wizards are expected to announce today the acquisition of veteran MLS forward Santino Quaranta in a trade with the Los Angeles Galaxy. The Wizards are expected to give up a pick in next year’s MLS SuperDraft for Quaranta."

This is a rare good move. Coming to pre-season as unprepared as Quaranta did is absolutely inexcusable. However, I was still hoping for at least 2 draft picks for him...

I thought it was funny at the game last Saturday that the halftime trivia question was - "Edson Buddle scored in his first game for the Galaxy last week against RSL? Who was the last player to score in his first game in a Galaxy uniform." And of course the answer is Santino Quaranta. Someone had a weird sense of humor to put up that question while Santino was exiled from practice & the team in preparation for a trade.

I remember that first game for Santino - he played like a demon possessed & couldn't be stopped. When we went back to DC he was an important player and rubbed the DC fans' noses in their loss, and they will never forgive him for it. He's talented, physically gifted with size, skilled, and good-looking to boot. Get a grip, Santino & grow up! Too bad you can't do it here, but we can't afford the luxury of your salary and the patience it will take to turn it around.

Yes. This was the right move - no question.

But it really does sadden me. Such a waste of skill and talent. At the fan events, he was a likeable and approachable kid. But self-destructive apparently, and that is just flat out sad.

Come on people talk like Santino was the great white hope. Yeah alot of talent but obviously he let all the smoke blown up his pooper go straight to the head. Where and what does that ever get anybody? Santino was gluton with vanity and really empty of his promise, atleast here so yeah pencil him for a Hat trick next game as a true wizard.

Now we were using allocation money to lower his salary to around $60,000. Do we get the full $100,000 back or just the $60,000. I Would imagine the full amount but this is MLS so.....

You're BOTH right. :D Not only that but Hartman will now have several shut-outs in a row, Hercules will score hat tricks in the Copa, Findley will catch up with J.P. Angel and EJ for top goal scorers...

On the bright side, I see Xavier getting his first MLS goal off a set piece on July 4th!

Interesting quote from Joe Cannon Saturday night about Quaranta on today's Around the League in 90 Minutes podcast (minute 27:00). Gary Richards paraphrasing Joe, "(Quaranta) is the one player who's been trying all season to try to achieve something"

You have to dig around a bit, but http://www.the2gs.com/listeningoptions.html

    Anyway...

Still no word? Man they really are going to waive him. He's disconnected his phone and turned of the electricity just to make ends meet before someone else picks him up only to offer him a development contract.

This may be good news for Quaranta. Some people just need to hit rock bottom before they're motivated enough to do something with their life.

Although HRH Grahame L. Jones wrote in today's LATimes that he expects a trade to be finalized today "for salary cap room"
