Just got back from the new Bond movie. Good but not as good as Casino Royale. You'll find a nod to some classics in this one. That said, don't go in expecting Casino Royale, you won't be disappointed. PS. Craig is much better than Brosnan already.
Shouldn't have switched directors. The director for Casino Royale was the same guy who did Goldeneye. So far he has done the best Brosnan movie and the best Craig movie. Not sure why they can't hang onto him. Going to see it tomorrow night.
Disappointing. The direction seems to consist of "cut, now cut again, but faster, faster, faster, faster, FASTER!!!!!!111!!!!" Its really difficult to make a Bond movie on speed AND ludes at the same time, but somehow this director managed it. WTF is with bond showing emotion? The whole thing that made him cool and fun is that he has none! Plus, the plot was just stupid. It makes sense, yes, but its just stupid. Was it awful? No, and there were some quality moments (including one particularly nice nod to the past, yes), but it made Craig's Bond to be too much of an emo'd thug on roid rage.
Might be a tick-tock type thing, this one really clinged to CR, maybe the next one will be a fresh storyline with a director that can keep my attention.
I'm not surprised by the use of emotion, given the content of CR. I think they're just trying to emphasise the Craig Bond as a young Bond at the start of his 00 career. As he goes on (presuming he does a fair few) I'm sure he'll become darker and more ruthless. All that said, SACK THE DIRECTOR.
Im sure Ill like it anyways, always been a HUGE fan, save for a few films, but nice to know to keep my expectations grounded for this one.
I thought it was great and I have been a Bond fan since i can remember. This film was bit faster than usual but the action scenes were fantastic - great choreograph. I would like to see it become a bit more of a spy film rather than a simple action flick so hopefully next time they can go back to the James Bond roots. I think we have finally gotten all this Bond sop story out of the way - yeah, we get it, your chick died. I read that this was supposed to take place an hour after CR. Other than that - very enjoyable! I am also a fan of the White Stripes but this had to be the worst Bond theme song ever!
Madonna's "Die Another Day" was also horrible! Not very "Bondesque" Garbage was pretty good was well for the "World is Not Enough". Duran Duran and A-ha also had pretty decent themes but the top two are definetly Carly Simon's "No Body Does it Better" for The Spy Who Loved Me and numer one.... drum roll.... Paul McCartney's "Live and Let Die"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
One of my favorite movies in the series too, and yes it was Wings I think. My favorite movie of the series is definitely Thunderball, anyone else?
Old school - Thunderball. New wave - CR, without a doubt. I liked Brosnan for his cool. Craig? I would seriously not like that f***** to be pissed off at me. What would happen? Bad things, man...bad things.
Yeah I really liked Casino ROyale, I liked how little gadgetry was used, although I dont mind those movies that do either. Brosnan I thought made a great Bond but was really held back by some awful movies, that were no fault of his own. None of them have Connery's swagger and presence, and moore's films were just fun.
Yeah, it was written by Paul and Linda but credited to "Paul McCartney and Wings". When I saw him live for the Back in the U tour - that song was ROCKIN'!!!!!! Lights, fire and energy!!!
Finally saw it. I thought it was quite good actually. I have a different view on the behind-the-scenes issues this film had. I think the director did his best with the script he had. Honestly, this movie has so many interesting plot elements that were simply not fully explored. The plot was kinda of swerving and never really got on target, but I think the directing was pretty solid. Overall, I would have liked a more direct script with more complete exposition of the various plot elements. O ya and the opening song was total sh*t (Still not as bad as the Goldeneye song though)
Agreed, although she (Tina Turner) did a great job with "We Don't Need Another Hero" for Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome.
Saw this last night after a couple of beers and, other than the Cinematographer being on a cocktail of coke and speed, I quite enjoyed it. I like that it's building a story and is probably going to look better in restrospect when some of the plot elements become clear. I think I would have enjoyed it more if I'd seen Casino more recently - I was struggling to remember who some of the characters were.
Saw it last night. I thought it was pretty good but the jittery camera thing always frustrates me. All it tells me is that the director doesn't have the talent to produce an intence action scene without resorting to close-up shaky shots. It was less noticeable later in the movie though. Either they did it less or I got used to it. Overall it was a pretty good flick. Not as good as Casino Royal but still better than a lot of the Bonds from the Brosnan era.
