MetroStars need to stop bringing these washed up "star" players, who cannot produce in any other league. I know because of the salary cap alot of teams are unable to lure great players, but I'll prefer to watch at younger players coming through the farm system, than some guy who played for Poland 10 yrs ago.......

Did they sign Gascoigne today or something? What are you "on about"?

Jusko was a mid season shot in the dark that didn't pan out. If Bradley missed a superstar target forward willing to play half a season for very little money that was out of contract in August of last year and wanted to come to the US...please name him.

Since Mattheus, this team has been pretty free of crap over the hill superstar signings. We have traded for a couple, Balboa comes to mind, but we haven't signed many, if any at all.

We got Moreno last year because we had to take him to get Pope, and we were able to get his salary and bad back off the team this year, so that's a plus. You could also argue that Mathis- tearing up the Bundesliga though he may be- is addition by subtraction as it allows us to get a guy who wanted to leave the team off it, the same reason we traded Chung. If he was going to play for Metro the way he is playing in Germany now, it would have been good to keep him. Thing is, you can't say that was going to happen. I think the thing we learned about Mathis that was he is a talented forward who blew hot and cold. Getting him to a team where he is motivated to play will in the end help us more than him staying on one where he wasn't.

I agree that we should develop young players, but that was what last year was all about. Getting guys like Magee, Clark & Gaven who all have a future instead of just picking up the next Adolfo Valencia/Mamadou Diallo that came along. Since Bradley's been here, we've turned over almost the entire roster, and for the first time in our history we're a younger team with legitimate potential. Also, we are way under the cap with money in the bank, to sign the star player you want. I too hope that our signing will not be an over the hill George Weah or something, but I trust Bradley enough not to make that mistake.

    We will see.

I know Arena sucks but have u ever seen Bradley play?? No... by the way he has been very impressive in preseason playing in the midfield for the Metros. So just because he is the coach's son doesnt mean the kid cant play... and remember he's only 16.

How about Joe Enochs next transfer opening? Think of the publicity: "Enochs join Metrosexuals!" ;)

Funny you mention this, since Weah Jr was born in NYC....He is 16, has only played one game with the US U-20s, and scored a goal. Down the road, if he truly flourishes and AC Milan needed to get him some first team experience.....Well, one can always dream.....As someone else mentioned before, it beats working.....

This is an oppinion that I have held for a long time.

The Metrostars management in general have always felt that foreign allocations are like whores. Which foreign player we get does not really matter to them. What matters is if they can get us to come. :)

What's Batistuta doing these days? Last I heard he was playing in the arab version of the NASL. Larson would be awesome but it's unlikely. He's probably going to England.

I know this is slightly off topic, but bringing up Richie Williams reminded me. What has happened with RW and all the other guys who are still listed on the team website but nowhere to be seen? Could Dan R. or someone else who understands MLS' arcane rules please explain to me what is going on? I assume it has something to do with retaining rights. It is not as if they haven't updated the list for draftees and La Manga and Florida for non-roster invitees.

Richie is still on the team, but is in limbo. He needs to decide if he is retiring, or playing another year at the pay cut salary he got last year.

If there is a roster change, you can check metrofanatic.com or the metrostars web site for an update, but plan on it being late in coming (typical MLS).
