sadly its true saprissa wont be able to qualify for the copa sudamericana..... sahttp://nacion.com/ln_ee/2008/junio/10/deportes1572992.htmld
This is so confusing... so then the earlier report that Saprissa was participating is now incorrect? Then who is participating from CONCACAF? Did anyone see the draw on FSE today who has any insight?
Yeah I saw the Sudamericana draw today and De Luca (the guy doing the draw) said that the 3rd CONCACAF invitee will likely be a club from Honduras.
Hmmm... Montagua? They are the only (non-Mexican) 2008 CCC team that is not playing in the 2008-9 CCL. I guess that's possible, but I would have though that CONMEBOL would want a team with more "sex appeal". They did, however, win the UNCAF Copa Interclubes last year.
Honestly, I would not have been surprised to see the LA Galaxy get picked because of Beckham (with some BS reason about how they are "leading the Western conference in MLS right now"). But who knows -- CONMEBOL isn't quite as bad as CON CACAF but they can be downright shady as well.
Well, there already are 2 Mexican teams involved though an actual qualification process. The third CONCACAF spot has always gone to a non-Mexican team (DC United in 2005 and 2007, LDA in 2006). So, I'm talking "sex appeal" among non-Mexican CONCACAF teams. With Saprissa and LDA nto available due to the CCL and even some of the other bigger Central American teams (like Olimpia and Municipal). I guess there is Comunicaciones (and Montagua certainly has their share of history too), but in terms of exposure for money (sponsorship/TV) you'd probably have to look at the US teams in MLS. But if CONMEBOL invites Montagua based on them actually playing in the CCC and being available, that would make some sense.
Actually it was Saprissa in 2006, they were massacred by Colo Colo. Eduardo De Luca said it would be a Honduran club, didn't mention a specific team, but with CONMEBOL you never know.
Well, it wouldn't be DC as they suffer from the same problem as Saprissa (are playing in the CCL this fall). I could see the Fire given Blanco's presence, the fact that Chicago is a big market, and that they have played well this year. Though LA/Beckham seems like a somewhat bigger draw. Still... the info so far is that it is supposively a Honduran team, so who knows.
According FOX Sports, the southamerican one, it's Motagua. http://www.diez.hn/Ediciones/2008/06/10/Noticias/Honduras-estara-en-la-!Copa-Sudamericana! - FOX Sports wanted Motagua?
my top 5 favorites to win the champions league 1. Santos Laguna 2. Cruz Azul 3. Saprissa 4. Unam 5. Atlante
I'll agree with all but number 5. I think Atlante is not going to work out. I'd put whoever from MLS is in form, which I'd imagine will be New England. EDIT: GO SANTOS LAGUNA! Man, I cannot WAIT for this to happen!
They don't even have to make it that far. They could end up against Saprissa or Alajualense in a quarterfinal and get knocked out (god forbid we have that match again).
lol true my top five is basically the same but la liga or houston at 5#...yes i know houston got exposed against saprissa but they might have an outside chance
the thing about pumas is that there coach is tucca ferreti and he doesn't seem to care for international competition. he always puts the bench out to play. he did it with pumas in libertadores and as a result pumas finished last in the group. He also played the bench while he coached Tigres in Libertadores but Tigres at least made it to the rd of 16. So are the times that the matches are played going to be determined by Concacaf or will the clubs be able to decide at what hour they play? Because Santos if they decide they will play at 3pm in 110 degree farenheit weather
