The Earthquakes Reserves will take on "Sacramento All Stars" on July 18th at Raley Field in (West) Sacramento. This match is part of "Sacramento Soccer Day" and will precede the main event, Norwich City FC vs Dorados de Sinalda (Mexican 2nd Division). This event will also be the big coming out party for the Sacramento USL Pro team, for which the team name, logo, and colors will be announced. www.sacprosoccer.com A question I have is will we see Adam Jahn show up with the reserves, or could he be lined up against them as one of the Sacramento All Stars?
Just got my tickets yesterday. The box office said they had already sold a lot of the stadium, so I'd encourage anyone who was thinking of going to try to get your tickets soon. It very well might sell out. I was just purchasing two tickets and there were limited options at midfield. 5:30 - Quakes Reserves vs. Sacramento All-Stars 7:30 - Norwich City FC vs Dorados de Sinada

If anyone can weigh in I'd appreciate it! Interesting that Ryan Hollingshead is on the roster - drafted first round by FC Dallas this year, but turned down MLS to start a church in Sacramento. I'd be happy to see him on the USL Pro roster once that comes out. This also answers the question of whether MLS players like Adam Jahn or Amobi Okugo would be making appearances on the squad. I guess not.
Jimmy Frazelle! Great memories of that kid from his UCLA days helping lead the Bruins to the national championship in 2002.
I remember Adam Smarte from the 2008 team. Don't remember much about him but he did get in a few games.
The funny parts of this "main"game They are bringing Dorados de Sinaloa a second div. mexican team agains a team from th EPL One of the reasons to bring Dorados was because Cuactemoc Blanco... well he doesn't play for them any more.
Yeah, this is a real bummer. They could have grabbed any div 1 Mexican team and would have been far better.
My brother lives in Sac. and he is a fan of club America and he is going to these games just for the fact that Cuao used to play with Dorados ...
That sucks for them. We can't really throw stones at the Sac team after we had giant billboards all over the bay area with Theirry Henry's face on them leading up to the 2011 Stanford fireworks game and then he didn't even travel due to "unexpected flu-like symptoms"
Just got tickets for 4 yesterday but then I'm kinda local now. Not many seats left at Raley Field according to the seating chart on the website. Reserve game at Kezar Monday, Reserve game Thursday at Raley Field, Open practice Friday, Canaries Saturday. Vacationing in with the Quakes this week amidst cleaning out the garage in only merciful 90+ degree heat in Yolo County this week............I am more used to wearing ski jacket to go to dinner in SF in July...............
Reserves are playing in SF tomorrow (Monday 15th) night also against Antigua. Correct? Anyone going? Does it need a thread?
Antigua may be the worst team in US professional soccer history. They have played 19 games, all on the road, lost all of them, scored 8 goals and given up 66 for a -58 goal difference. They have scored more than 1 goal only once (a 7-2 loss to Orlando). Their best results are two 1-0 losses to Phoenix and a 2-1 loss to Rochester. It will be very disappointing if the reserves don't smash them.
I am. When I can't make a 'Quakes game I give my tix (including this past June 29, sigh) to a buddy who has coached my son's teams on and off over the years, so they're taking me to this game as a thank you.
Liga MX starts their season July 19th so getting a first division team would be difficult. Had the game been played a couple of weeks earlier while many Mexican teams play pre-season games in the US then things would have been different. I got my midfield tickets and will be there to watch both games. I'm looking forward to it. I'll also be going to the Quakes-Norwich game on Saturday.
Ugh.. I've been checking the weather forecast the past couple of days - each time I check it, the temperature for Thursday seems to climb a little higher. Tomorrow it's a high of 86, by Thursday were' pushing high 90's.. Of course it would happen on Sac Soccer Day... Murphy's Law I guess.. I hope the forecast is wrong and the cooler weather can stick around a little further, or there will be a nice breeze.
Today is the day. I can't wait to see the reserves in action, the Sacramento guys play, and Norwich City vs Dorados (which I fully expect NCFC to handle). I read in the paper this morning Norwich will be playing 11 men one half and a different 11 in the second, so should be a good show. Oh and the big reveal of the Sacramento USL Pro team! Go Quakes! Go Sacramento!
Excellent to see more teams springing up. Good luck Sacramento!! And one day, I'd like to see all teams in the US and Canada under one umbrella, even if it's one organization that coordinates the different and still separate leagues. go quakes! - Mark
Got Preki as head coach! Impressive. The USL Pro team up the way has a bigger name coach than we do hahaha.
It was a bit of false advertising in that it was more like the Earthquakes academy players than the reserves. I guess it's not surprising as they all played at Kezar a couple of days ago. The kids ended up tying the Sac All-stars 3-3, which was a good game. Still, would have like to see more guys who could cut into the first team play, ah well. Norwich was exciting to see, though the cramped field was a little obvious. Was slow going for most of the match, but the onslaught came in the second half when the scored three in succession. Didn't get to see Van Wolfswinkle as I had hoped, but they are probably saving him for SJ on Saturday. I ended up sitting next to an English guy from Norwich who was visiting and following the whole tour, that was fun and a great experience. He asked if I knew about Hucks and I said he would be in attendance on Saturday. Sac's pres said he was interested in MLS partnership, looking like it will be SJ or Portland, from what I can tell.
Didn't get there until the last 20 minutes of the academy match and didn't recognize a single SJQ player. Norwich played mostly reserve players the first half and it was a snoooooozer in the sun. 2nd half with more 1st team players and cooler temperature was a much more lively affair. With a by week, hope the Quakes will run out a strong team on Sat. Sacramento Republic FC, 1 star on the crest..............Sacramento, Texas perhaps.........but I have respect and high hope for the ownership group which also runs the A's Triple A affiliate the River Cats, a perennial power house in AAA ball. I hope the Sac Republic FC will work out something with the Quakes instead of Portland.
They wore white, but the team name and crest were only revealed after the "all-star" team played. Colors were not officially announced, but seem to be a combination of a dark red and brown (or maybe bronze?). Think colors on the state flag, without the green. Academy player Tommy Thompson was probably the best player on the field, and whomever #7 is was pretty good for the 'Quakes, too. He had two goals. Ryan Hollingshead looked like he hasn't played much soccer lately. He played less than a half and his passing touch was very poor. 'Quakes Academy vs. Sac All-Stars was a pretty entertaining 3-3 draw, actually.
