http://www.sjearthquakes.com/news/2010/08/quakes-release-javier-robles WTF?! I mean really, WTF?! We have two open roster spots, so we release another player because? ... !@#$ Doyle!!! GO QUAKES!! - Mark
LOL...and I was just going to buy a Robles jersey. Ha ha ha! Probably means they are going to sign Kamani Hill.
I hope you mean Doyle and Yallop. Even terrible players are better than no players. Robles at least looked good when he played against RSL and Spurs. And with two open roster spots, what's the point in cutting him? And given that we recover no salary cap for him at this late date, I still don't see the point? We need a quality backup right mid, so why did we just cut one?! I want to puke. - Mark
We already have two open roster spots and we don't get any cap space back for cutting Robles. From OUR point of view, this move makes no sense at all. From Robles' point of view, he probably asked to be let go so he can return to Argentina and find a team to play for. Lame. Sack Doyle. - Mark
I agree...makes no sense. But, not much has made sense with this club for a long time except for beer in the stands.
We hardly knew Robles because we didn't get to see him play much. In pre-season we had some hope that he would bring offense to the team. Anyway, I am actually glad that now he can now go and play somewhere else. It should be better for him. Now, Doyle will bring in another player Yallop would not play.
The transfer window closes on the 15th I believe. I'm very sorry to see Robles go. He showed some promise and was cheap in terms of salary. My guess is that we will not be seeing three signings, but instead need the international roster slot that Robles occupies. We now have one international roster slot open, perhaps for Khari Stephenson who was reported to be in camp two weeks ago. I cannot think of another reason he would be released after contact are guaranteed.
Doesn't seem necessary. Edit: And it goes without saying that Robles isn't the player I would have cut. And couldn't we have just put Eduardo on the IR?
If they can replace him with a player that they actually plan to play than it makes perfect sense. Would have liked to see Robles get more than 61 minutes to prove himself.
Bzzzzzt! Wrong, thank you for playing though! We just dumped Sanchez for Cronin. So we have an open international slot. I think there are only two reasonable possible explanations for this latest stupid move: A; Robles said: "Let me the @#$% out of here!!" B; Robles somehow insulted Doyle's massive ego and then had to be cut. We had two open roster spots before we cut Javier. One of these was an international spot. We do not recover any salary cap space by cutting Javier. Do you have some other explanation that makes even marginal sense? I'm open to suggestions. GO QUAKES!! Doyle & Yallop OUT!!! - Mark
Wow. I saw Robles play here in Sacramento and thought he did a good job. Guess they don't need him.. The only good thing I can see in this is that it points to the FO bringing in a new player or two before the transfer window closes. I'd like to say I'm cautiosly optimistic - but this is our FO we're talking about...
We haven't added anybody since Sanchez was released right? We should have one spot open. I'm assuming Sealy took ALM's spot, maybe?
NO!! We moved ALM to season ending IR. We replace him with Cronin. We cut Sanchez AND Andrew Weber. We had two open spots, including one international spot. Then we cut Robles. SO, we now have three open roster spots, one of which is an international spot. KMJvet thinks that we have around $300K in cap space, which is actually double that because any players we add now only count for half of their annual cap hit. Plus, we have some allocation cash on hand. So, in theory, we could sign up to three players, and one of them could be for big bucks, the others for moderate bucks. BUT, unless we sign three serious guys, this move makes no sense at all. And Robles was supposed to be one of our serious guys!! JD is a flaming moron!! JD! I hope you're reading this you idiot!! GO QUAKES!! - Mark
Just another illustration of how JD and FY are not on the same page. On the surface, Robles seemed like a quality player for the price; same goes for Sanchez. In the end, JD needed to support his chosen coach & get him some players that he will use.
Ryan Johnson is supposed to be with the Jamaican nat'l team in a friendly vs. Trinidad & Tobago on 8/11, so who knows if he will be available for both 8/7 & 8/14. Haven't heard if Glen will be with T & T for that game. Not necessarily a bad thing, I know, except that the number of available players is only going to get smaller. Signings must be imminent. Cross your fingers on Hill.
That's it??! The idiots in charge release Robles and keep Eduardo the fragile?? Well, we can add Javier's name to the list of stupid things the incompetent Mr. Doyle has done. Khari Stephanson & Kamani Hill? Really? Seriously? God help me, Doyle is starting to make gAlexi look like a passable GM.
