Devastating indeed, particularly if/once the team finally decides to start advertising/marketing. I know that it's not totally true, particularly since the Earthquakes are still here and will be for years to come (and I know that Dominic Kinnear was just joking), but that's also kinda how I feel at the moment. I'm sure that feeling will pass once I start munching down on some turkey and stuffing tomorrow, though. GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
I knew it was going to happen sooner or later & it hurt when it was announced yesterday. BUT, it didn't sink in until I opened up the MERC right now. A tear or 2 has been shed for the ending of the greatest era in the history of this club. I gotta admit though; I really coulda done without that damn Ecklund article. What in the hell are they thinking there??? While his play had diminished a little the past season, he's still the engine room of the club. Ramiro leaving wouldn't devestate me too much, but why dump Ronnie if Corrales leaves? Now we are looking at replacing 3 STARTERS ( 3 1/2 if you count all that Landon has really done for the club). I love this team & have supported them for 27 of my 31 years on earth, but they are really making it hard for me to justify coughing up another $600+ for season tix. I WANNA BELIEVE!!! The only thing that could top off today is if AEG sells the Quakes to Texas. Bah Humbug! P.S. I am thankful for the 4 years of magic & miracles provided by Mr. Donovan! 1 word... IRREPLACEABLE!!!!!!!
I think it's bigsoccer1 @bigsoccer.com (without the space), password: bigsoccer1 If not, then try it without the 1's. GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
Losing Ekelund and Corrales is going to hurt too. Hopefully the Quakes can get adequate replacements in a hurry, now that (without Ekelund) they'll have three SI slots available with DeRosario filling the fourth (Onstad's green card means that he isn't counted as an SI). Not gonna happen. Therein lies the problem. GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
Well, as one who tries to "always looks on the bright side of life" - We saw that Dominic did not do so well with a team he essentially inherited from Frank. Now Dominic has the opportunity to build a team to his (and GAlexi's) specifications. Frank won the cup the very first year he put together a team, leaving a high mark indeed for any coach to follow. I will put last year in the category of 'transition' - that's the leeway Dominic has IMO. This year, it will be his team with his players and he will be solely responsible for its success or failure. Therefore, I am with the others who are looking forward to the most interesting off-season since the winter of 2000-01. The only thing that concerns me are the rumblings, repeated in today's Merc, about Clint Mathis. Can you really build a team around this guy???
I CANNOT BELIEVE WE'RE LETTING EKE GO!!!!!! This is too much! Is it because of salary issues? Can we not afford him? How about Goose? Have we heard anything? Is Jeff retiring or what? Troy? Ramiro going to Norway???? I thought the rumors were that he's probably going to Chivas? How about DeRo? Any news on him?
IrishQuake mentioned that we might need a Clint Mathis notoriety if we lose DeRo to frustrate our friend, Dan Our friend Dan, whom we invited to several matches always thought that Pwame's style always reminded him of Clint which irritates him to no end but as soon as he gets frustrated, DeRo scores the goal of the year infront of him
"I've got to get over the disappointment," said Ekelund, a key component of the Earthquakes' two championship runs. "I really liked the area.'' :tearsofsadness:
I hope to see Ekelund come back some day . . . as coach of the Quakes. I'm really disappointed to see him go, but I was expecting it. The Quakes have been slow to re-sign him the past two seasons. I'm not sure why that should have been the case, but it was. So I'm not surprised. Losing LD and Corrales too means that we need a whole new flock of central midfielders. GO QUAKES!! - Mark
I agree - I want to see more of this kid. Everytime he's come on for the Quakes, he's created havoc in the midfield. This is a tough, talented lad and it's going to be very interesting to see what he brings to the party...
I'm sure Ann Killion was just joking to make a point. However, even if there was such a cable package, I wouldn't shell out the extra bucks for it just to follow Donovan or anyone else. While I certainly wish him well in Germany, the only pro soccer team I follow/care about/etc. is the San Jose Earthquakes... and that still hasn't changed. GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
My feelings are the same regarding the 'Quakes, however I have always had in interest in watching US players wheverver they are. For example, I used to watch Mexican league games to try and catch Mike Sorber playing for Pumas or Tab Ramos playing for Tigres. The same goes for Landon... I'd just like to see him play, regardless of the team he played for, just to see how he does "over there".
She may have been joking, but if there's enough demand (people who want to spend money on it) for anything, the cable and satellite companies will make it available.
