Because Yallop is looking to the future, and Onstad is 37 years old. I just tuned in in time to see DeRo's goal. Nice setup, clinical finish, capped off by that Egyptian walk. Good stuff
He danced The Canadian Chicken! Now the Quakes are tied for second place in the Western Conference along with the "golden children". Not bad for a team many predicted to be among the bottom two in the conference by this point in the season. AEG must reeeeeaaaaally be hating this right about now! GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
Big Frank wants to blood some younger 'keepers for Canada. Which is all well and good, really. Pat alluded to that in Dwight Chapin's feature in this morning's San Francisco Chronicle.
I'm not going to jinx anything just yet by saying, "another odd year, another MLS Cup", far too early for that. But another run deep into the playoffs, that would be sweet.
remember a few years back when we lost cannon, barrett, graziani, et al ... and we didn't get tennyson. we had to settle for some guys named ching and mullan. who the hell was onstad? whatever happened that season? kinda similiar ... we lose golden boy, goose, ekelund, mulrooney, waible, dayak et al. and all of a sudden we have a team on our hands. hope everything turns out the same as last time.
no kiddin "rebuilding year" my arse! this is a "we are rebuilding, but we'll still tear you apart year" before the season started 10 "experts" were asked to guess the team ranks for the end of the year.. 1 put SJ in DEAD last, and the others had them no higher than 8th i think
the question becomes, can we maintain this momentum with DeRo gone. Does Knuckles get a shot? Do we slide Chung inside? Wonder what Dom's next move is.
I was thinking, "not rebuilding, just reloading". Still, getting a result in this manner, very schweet. Teams of destiny find ways to get results like this.
And Davis will be on Gold Cup duty as well. Dom's starting XI at the weekend will be very interesting, indeed.
Id imagine O'Rourke in central midfield is the way we will go, but I wouldnt be suprised to see Russell on the left and Chung in the center. I dont see Dombrowski in, as hes been playing back more than O'Rourke in the reserves. The only other option would be Wondolowski in CM, and Id be really suprised as Dom hasnt given him any time at this point. Well, in the far out category, maybe Mullan at CM and Russell at RM or Cerritos in CM and Nash at forward. That wold be shocking to me though.
Then let's help him. *breaking the fourth wall to talk to the coach* Dom, it's Will here. I'll brainstorm something for you tonight, after I get done serving drinks at the greyhound track.
Simply put--DeRo provides another dramatic goal... Now we're tied for second place with LA and within striking distance of FC Dallas--this weekend's game becomes one of significant important. A win will put us closer to first place, and yes I have faith in this team. This is a good time for the lads to be in form, despite the injuries to Ching. Good to see Mullan back in the mix.
if this is the route he goes, it will be interesting since he hasnt played since we played in LA (not counting reserves)
Question is, how far will they go to keep us out of the way of their beloved Galaxy? How low will they stoop? In our favor is the fact that the Galaxy blew their two consecutive chances at winning a title at the new HDC. But then again, there's new investors to keep happy, like that Chivas hombre who paid AEG 10 or 15 million, plus rent.
My $3.98 while the tilt is git unt fresh in mein kopf. Firstly - parting mit tradition - an opponent gaffer rant - wdf does Clavijo think he is? 1/ Hack-a-mid in it's most obvious? 2/ Taking a semidecent team and turning them into a flat 5 monstrosity? 3/ A hairdo that'd put Klaus Meine to shame, and a chirt to rival Deuce Bigolo's? OK, now to bidnest'. Onstad - 8.0 - faultless - 2 fantastic saves - greatly improved distro on all 3 varieties of it. Wadealah - 6.0 - almost too much overlapping, yet if it is a trend, who am I to go against fashion? EdierO - 6.5 - covering for Wade stretched him a bit thin, almost cost us a goal, fought with ever increasing determination Califf - 7.5 - is there a better centerback in MLS right now? Gray - 7.0 - shut down entire side - at the end Crap-its gave up on the left side altogether - quick + accurate ball movement Chung - 6.0 - hack-a-mid got to him - yet kept on pushing DeRo - 7.5.- you'd think his name was Diego - he was tripped so much; great goal, great dance, great way to say goodbye for coupla'weeks. Best of luck mit Canucks. Clark - 4.0 - I dunno , why doesn't he ever PRESSURE the ball? Mullan - 8.0 - MOTM IMHO - after a lengthy layoff owned his flank, great 4 step combo to set up a goal - late in the game when he shouldda been gassed. Ronnie - 7.0 - gave all that he has - which was good enough Moreno - 5.5 - guess if you adopt a "fox in a box" role you live and die by the sword; didn't score - thus didn't succeed. Nash - 7.0 - didn't spoil the picture, congrats on de foist MLS point. Dom - 7.5 - tried every possible scenario to get a goal. Now without Pwamme und Davis, mit Ching und Twellman hurt - it is becoming painfully obvious that reinforcement is due, it is also painfully obvious that mit AEG's flippant attitude 'cept for Ronnie E we do not have choice. Meanwhile for the next 2 weeks the only lineup that I see is : Onstad Barrett Edie Califf Gray Clark Chung O'Rourke Mullan Cerritos Moreno let's remember that FCD will be mitout Messrs. Floppadinsky and Johnson for the next game, and Ritchie - obviously, a win at the Cavern would put us 6 points outta first place. Rotten tomatoes, as always, are more den welcome.
Just home another three points and tied with the galiscum. Wow, we did leave it a bit late but it was a lovely goal. Good to see Mullan back, not his greatest game ever or Dero's but they combined well for the goal so they are back on their pedestal Also a lovely play by Nash to get the assist. But, for me the Man of the Match was Rico, he was awesome, his best game yet as a Quake. What a great run he made, he ripped apart the Colorado defense and even the blessed Joe cannon didn't have a chance, unlucky that it hit the crossbar, 3 inches lower and we woulda had another Goal of the Year. All in all it's been a great home stand by the Quakes, 7-0 in the last three games
