They finish up the regular season with a home and home. If Quakes win the West and LA finishes 4th, they would play the next two weekends as well in the playoffs. Same if the Quakes finish 2nd and the Galaxy finish 3rd. 4 straight weekends would be about 2 weekends too much. By the 3rd game, in the playoffs, they'd be kicking each other so much we'd see more cards than at a poker tournament. It is looking unlikely though, as the Quakes should win the West given their lead and current form, and with KC sucking, the Galaxy should finish 3rd. Still, an interesting possibility.
This looks like the most realistic possibility at the moment...much to the dismay of our friends the SoCal trolls...
This would actually represent the best scenario: let the Rapids and Galaxy beat each other up. If Kansas City continues its current form, Quakes stand a great chance of advancing to the Western Conference final.
Ain't going to happen. LA is going to jump on KC's skull and Dallas can't win all of their remaining games. Too bad though, I was looking forward to X2 playoffs with the LA scum.
I'm not too dismayed.. Yes it's most likely LA will finish above 4th especially since we'll get 6 points against San Jose.
Well, the Wiz are falling faster than a legless man at the 200 meter hurdles. Quakes-Wiz in round 1. That sets up a very, very interesting Gals-Rapids matchup in round 1. Here's hoping for the Gals to win just so we can crush them in the Conf. Finals and deface their lockers for the MLS Cup!
another possible scenario For the season-ending home and away series with the Galaxy, the following scenario could be possible: if the Quakes win the season-ending series, they face the Galaxy in the first round if the Quakes lose the series, they face the Wizards That would present an interesting dilemma for the Quakes coaching staff, team and fans. Of course, I would want the Quakes to go all out for a victory every time regardless of playoff seeding consequences. It's better to go into the playoffs with momentum. The Quake coaches and team likely feel the same way.
The home-and-away with LA may also determine the Supporter's Shield winner as well. Really, wouldn't you rather go into the first round of the playoffs against a team you just beat in a home-and-away series?
I thing people generally fear - at least a little - the always-dangerous Galaxy (even though they've sucked this year), who are at least competent, as opposed to the Wizards, who are seen as easy pickings.
