After his violent outburst in the final match of the Premier League season, Joey Barton finds himself being slapped with a 12 game suspension and a 75,000 pound fine. This isn't Barton's first run in with trouble and surely not his last. Does the punishment fit the crime?
I think given his past conduct, the clear video evidence of the post-ejection melee, and his complete lack of remorse after the fact, the FA had to make an example of him. The fine and lost game pay make enough of a dent in his livelihood to have an impact, while the suspension could very well act as a motivator for Hughes and QPR to drop him.
