QPR - last season: 18th in Championship; this season: 1 GP, 1 Point in Championship v. Leyton Orient - last season: 20th in League One; this season: 1 GP, 3 Points in League One ------ 14 August 2007 19:45 Loftus Road Carling Cup - 1st Round ------ Rangers News: The official site says we can expect changes for tonight's match. Danny Cullip and Marcus Bignot are able to play some part. Dexter Blackstock has a "slight hamstring problem" that could keep him out. Hogam Ephraim's loan agreement with West Ham does not allow him to play in this game. Ainsworth, Kanyuka, Jones, Sahar, and Walton remain out. Timoska's suspension ends, so he should be available. This should serve as the second of three games Chris Barker is suspended. QPR is only opening the South Africa Road, Paddocks, and School End, so it'll be a small crowd. Keeping Ellerslie Road closed isn't a big surprised, but no Loft tonight, either. Also of note this week, Danny Nardiello has been called up to the Welsh squad that will face Bulgaria in a away friendly on August 22nd. The Opponent: Leyton Orient survived in League One last season after earning promotion in the third-and-final automatic promotion spot from League Two the season before. They opened this season with a surprising 2-1 at Southend. The BBC says "could be without Brian Saah (hamstring) and skipper Stephen Purches (ankle), while Alton Thelwell and Jabo Ibehre are also doubtful. Charlie Daniels, on loan from Tottenham, has been cleared to play but Michael Simpson (knee) and Clayton Fortune (collarbone) are both out." The preview on the Orient site notes they've lost in the first round each of the last four years. Who was the last team they knocked out of the cup? QPR in 2002/03. Another story from their official site: O's Face Carling Cup Injury Crisis The Series: QPR leads 21-15-13 in the all-time series including a 20-14-12 record in league play and an even 1-1-1 record in cup play. The clubs last met in 2002/03 in the League Cup with Orient winning 3-2 at Brisbane Road. That is the only meeting between the London clubs in 25 years since the clubs last were in the same division in the 1981/82 season when QPR won 3-0 at home (April '82) and drew 1-1 away (October '81). The clubs first met as members of the old Division 3 South in 1929/30.
[R] in this thread for all of this week's Carling Cup games (and maybe even this week's Prem games) Yesterday in the Carling Cup League Two Peterborough were surprise winners at home against Southampton, 2-1. Andy Hall is our official today. He opened the season at Oldham's 2-1 home win over Swansea in which a penalty was awarded in the 3rd minute and 5 yellows were issued overall. Overall in games with Hall in all competitions we have 4 wins, 4 draws, and 3 losses. Although he worked a number of Championship games last season, he did officiate any of ours. The season before, he worked our home win in the Carling Cup against Northampton and our away loss at Palace. In 04/05, he worked our away loss at Preston. He didn't work any of our games in 03/04, but worked three in 02/03 -- away to Peterborough (win), away to Oldham (draw), home against Crewe (draw). In 01/02, he worked our away debacle in the FA Cup at Swansea and our away win at Swindon. In 00/01, he worked a scoreless away draw at Blackburn. In 98/99, he worked a home win over Stockport. In 97/98, he worked a home draw with Tranmere.
It's going to absolutely pour rain in London tonight as well. Don't think I'd fancy an evening in the Paddocks!
From weather.com for tonight: Cloudy and windy with periods of rain. Low 64F. Winds SW at 20 to 30 mph. Chance of rain 80%. Rainfall near a quarter of an inch.
Cullip and Bignot in. Ward starts! Blackstock out (not even on bench). Nardiello not on bench, either. Moore up top and Ward in Midfield? Or other way around? QPR: Camp, Bignot, Cullip, Mancienne, Rehman, Bolder, Rowlands, Moore, Bailey, Ward, Nygaard. Subs: Cole, Stewart, St Aimie, Curtis, Timoska. Leyton Orient: Nelson, Thelwell, Mkandawire, Melligan, Chambers, Gray, Corden, Terry, Boyd, Palmer, Demetriou. Subs: Morris, Daniels, Echanomi, Sylvester, Shields. http://www.qpr.premiumtv.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10373~1091670,00.html
--------------Camp---------------- Rehman-Cullip-Mancienne-Biggie Rowlands-Bailey-Bolder-Ward-Moore -------------Nygaard-------------- ?? Although it seems that Rowly will have tons of liscence to stay in the attack with that line-up.
Maybe so. Sorta like this, maybe? --------------Camp---------------- Rehman-Cullip-Mancienne-Biggie --------------Bailey--------------- Rowlands----Bolder------Moore --------------Ward--------------- -------------Nygaard--------------
Boyd comes close... Orient commentators said that the Rs are playing 442. Also said that SA Road Stand is nearly full.
Scores of note... MK Dons 2 - Ipswich nil (after Ipswich were torn apart Saturday) Norwich 5 - Barnet nil (Cureton has two)
