Wow. How I wish I was in Shepherd's Bush yesterday and last night. BBC says David Luiz left the referee "little option but to point to the spot" on the PK. They say the first red card "seemed harsh" but also said there "was no question over the red card this time" for the second. After 9 games, we're in 10th -- 6 points (plus GD) above the relegation zone: Pos Team P GD PTS 1 Man City 9 26 25 2 Man Utd 9 14 20 3 Chelsea 9 10 19 4 Newcastle 9 6 19 ------ 5 Tottenham 8 2 16 ------ 6 Liverpool 9 2 15 7 Arsenal 9 -3 13 8 Norwich 9 -1 12 9 Stoke 9 -4 12 10 QPR 9 -7 12 11 Aston Villa 9 0 11 12 West Brom 9 -2 11 13 Everton 8 -2 10 14 Sunderland 9 2 9 15 Swansea 9 -5 9 16 Wolves 9 -6 8 17 Fulham 9 -1 7 ------ 18 Bolton 9 -12 6 19 Wigan 9 -9 5 20 Blackburn 9 -10 5
I loved watching QPR as a Premiership team again. And beating Chelsea just made it better. Though 1-0 against a 9-man Chelsea makes me think we will have to work hard for everything we can get this year.
Agreed, dog. Still, those 9 guys are probably paid more than R's entire squad! At least R's got the full 3 points this time. Those draws after dominating matches were really starting to erode my stomach lining. I also agree with much of the comment that atouk quoted. I thought the penalty was borderline, but I'll take it. Luiz had a HORRIBLE game, and I suspect his nonsense antics later in the match might have gotten him a second yellow, if two hadn't already been sent off. And good Lord, is he ever lazy. As for the sendings-off, the first one was marginal, but Bosingwa did have a fistful of jersey. The second was a cinch: sheesh, Drogba's an idiot. My heart stopped a couple of times late on, especially on Anelka's header. But Paddy comes through! And the atmosphere at LR was tremendous. As was watching England'sBraveandLoyalJohnTerry bitch at the ref for the entire second half.
Congratulations on the win. I like seeing newly promoted teams win, and I like seeing Chel$ea lose. Wonder if Warnock's pre-game was "just go out there, play hard, and hope Chelsea self-destruct?" Questionable strategy but it worked this time...
Warnock and Taarabt looked like they were having words afterwards. We're in for an interesting season. Our ownership situation has me hopefull now after everything that went on over the summer.
Yeah, that was the thing I thought about later, that I forgot to mention. Taarabt sulked straight to the dressing room after the substitution. The soap opera continues... Ugh. And yep, the best thing that could happen to QPR was a complete Ecclestone-ectomy. At least his moronic daughters are still making headlines. Don, if you like seeing Chelski lose, you're among friends here.
I have to admit that was one of the most frustrating wins I've ever witnessed. Our guys were uninspiring and sloppy and often times looked to all be "dancing to different drummers" - kind of like a pickup game in the park when we were kids. It was almost as if they had no real game plan. But, a win is a win and EVERY TEAM benefits from a "good snuggle" with lady luck from time-to-time. Chelsea has nobody to blame but themselves. They were almost as uninspiring as QPR in the first half. Yeah, they had the edge in time-of-possession and field position but, they didn't translate that into any serious scoring threats. It wasn't until the second half, when they were already down a goal and two players, that they started "playing." It seemed to me they thought they would win just by showing up.
