Wow, real deserved red card, what was Melo thinking? I think Nishimura has a good game so far.

    Oh man.

Look, he can get a lot of calls correct. That doesn't mean he's managed the match well. Two totally different things. This thing just feels like it's about to spiral out of control.

Did anyone laugh at the slip of the red card? What would the players think of that? I have no idea and I'm curious if it would effect them much.

Another good card on the yellow to the Dutch.
I liked how he laughed about pulling the red out by mistake.

I agree with you on that one.. it's heating up. He's got about 14 minutes or so to keep it controlled.. I hope he can make it.

Guy looked glad to get yellow after that mistake!

They laughed it off rather than arguing for a soft yelow.

What's the odds the 4O made that handling call? It was 5 yards from him.

Does anyone besides Mass think that it is the referee who is losing control of the match or is it the players mostly? MatchCast comments are saying it is close to a brawl as well, but what else can the CR do besides punishing what needs to be punished? The fact that you have 3 distinct cultures at play here in the match probably makes it very hard to manage.

I was wondering that too but I didn't see him move. He's got a headset maybe he called it.

The players have been an embarrassment. I think he's done well. By far the toughest game to ref this entire cup.

No but I'm coming to the conclusion that a lot of this stuff has developed from his unwillingness to stamp his authority down in the first half. With different teams, his approach from the first half might have worked. But these two sides weren't accepting what he was trying to sell. If maintains general control from here on out, he's done well. But this could go either way.

I really don't see a close brawl at all. They're not getting in eachothers faces, they're not even aggressively fouling...just some silly fouls and it's very no confrontational.

It is tense though so maybe it's almost there...but I really don't think so.

IMO he is doing very well. The players are playing for all they are worth, using all their tricks. Imagine that, in a WC QF!!

You could be right...it's a fine line to walk between to totalitarian and too lenient. He's walking it as well as he can in this game, also I'm sure he has his future in the tournament on his mind, and if he gives out too many cards that aren't required he might be pulled.

15 minutes ago I wouldn't agree with you but the aggressive play has slowed down and now its just tense and fast play. But I'd imagine someone on Brazil might lose their temper.. they're about to get knocked out.

I have to disagree I think he has done well. If he " stamps" his authority on the game we would be telling him he was ruining the game. To be fair I think a match like this is always going to be right on the edge. But no matter what I think it has been very entertaining.

100% agree on being the toughest match.. I wonder how quick a fight would break out if I was in the middle.. lol

Players are hacking each other behind the refs back (retaliation). It's a tough game to ref, but Nishimura is doing well overall.

Did the commentator just suggest the Dutch player kick the referee in order to get a caution? Or did I completely mishear that?

Something tells me Brazil won't leave the field with dignity and will surround the refs. I hope I'm wrong.
