Ferreira looks so scared of his moment. It’s too bad that Gregg left him on the bench too long in this tournament. But I hope they don’t sub him out, as it could adversely affect his career. Let him play it out, since he’s not really the problem here.
The second half kicks off. The score is still: 2 - 0 GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! GO USA!!! VAI BRASIL!!! -G
And to think that twenty years ago (has it been that long ago? ), the U.S. defeated Mexico 2-0 at this stage, which included a goal by Baby Judas. GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! GO USA!!! VAI BRASIL!!! -G
Bringing in Aaronson and Wright for McKennie and Musah seems promising up font, especially if another guy up front helps Gio be more active. But it seems to weaken the midfield a lot…
To be fair, though, The Netherlands is currently the #8 ranked national team in the world for a reason. GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! GO USA!!! VAI BRASIL!!! -G
With not having been allowed to play in this year's tournament and with having just been eliminated from it , it's now all up to to keep me caring about it. GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! GO USA!!! VAI BRASIL!!! -G
Ok, let’s talk about who looked good in this WC: Tim Ream, Tyler Adams, Pulisic, Robinson Who looked bad: Wright, Shaq Moore, Jesus Ferreira (on only 45 mins tho), Berhalter
On the bright side, Luchi Gonzalez should be arriving in San José within the week or so to start working with the Earthquakes in earnest. GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! GO USA!!! VAI BRASIL!!! -G
Thank you, Gregg Berhalter, for getting us into the eliminations . Now don’t let the door hit your a$$ on the way out…
Berhalter did pretty well I thought. Not sure why people want him out. It was a respectable WC for team USA, much better than 2018 . Sometimes consistency is better than constant coaching churn.
It would be nice if USSoccer got really brave and dumped Berhalter now. Berhalter may have good man-manager skills, but we have a good team of young guys who need a coach who is better strategically and tactically. - - - - Edit - that being said, I have no idea who that would be
A manager makes his biggest contribution in the roster and in-game tactics. Clearly Berhalter’s roster lacked goal scorers and had some strange choices — Roldan and Morris both pretty injured, dropping Pepi for Wright, bringing Ferreira without any plan to use him, etc etc. And the fact that his 1H is usually good but his 2H usually sucks shows that he can’t make the right adjustments, and the players succeed in spite of him.
and what about Gio? even my doc was wondering why he wasn't starting. he said he was a top attacking player...not sure if that's true but did we ever learn why his minutes were so limited? for me McKennie was a big disappointment but maybe he wasn't 100% fit? anyway, I'm not so sure Berhalter needs to go. when the sting from this one wears off, there might be some good reasons for keeping him in place...young team, played well through the group stage...I just hope US soccer avoids a knee jerk reaction...starting over with a new coach could set us back when clearly they made progress.
Mckennie was coming off an injury. Reyna is often injured, but came into the World Cup playing well for Dortmund. During a game against a local side four days before the tournament Berhalter stated Reyna experienced some "muscle tightness", so he was cautious with him.
