I never heard of these fair play points for tie breakers.

    Is this something new?

Poland were pathetic. Your biggest game and you just literally park the bus for 90 minutes?!? Embarrassing. Make it to the big dance, just to sit in a corner by yourself. Obviously they aren't winning the WC, but to weasel your way out of the group that way?!? Hope France thrashes them. Hate teams that play not to lose..... Only to end up losing.

Exactly. I do not like Argentina but I was hoping they scored another goal (while Mexico was leading by 2 goals at the time) to send Poland home. Poland was just pathetic as you said. They didn't even want to foul, worrying about getting cards that could affect the tie-breaker. Just a bunch of zombies walking around.

And so far several teams playing not to lose or for a tie were not getting what they hoped for. Some coach calculated too much for a tie even on the second game. It's fine to defend and counter but some of these teams don't even have the counter attack or transition game set up. How Mexico played against Argentina in the second game is a demonstration.

Fans are paying lots of money for tickets and sitting in the stands until midnight to watch a wimpy game like that? Not that I'd ever be a Poland fan, but if I were, I'd be furious.

Deeply ingrained anti-Semitism, and they remain unrepentant (unlike Germany). My German grandparents were murdered there. Stuff like that. Nothing to do with soccer, and they have some outstanding players who were no doubt frustrated by yesterday's game plan.

This is why I hope MLS doesn't add a 'group stage' to their playoff format next year (as was rumored).

Poland’s dominant “Law and Justice” party is just this side of outright neofascist. They, along with Hungary have led the resurgence of the European xenophobic right wing.

Canada had a World Cup. Finished second to last (Qatar was last).

These announcers could save us a lot of mis-information if they just left Google's live World Cup standings page open in front of them. They get the live standings wrong so many times.

And credit to Google for providing a very simple and sufficient design for the World Cup.

Spain had over 500 passes in the first half. Yet within a few minutes of second half they were behind already and were never able to pass their way to a draw or victory.

I really hate tiki taka and the the obsession to play out of the back in any situation.

And I am glad that Japan beat Spain.
