Sad news everyone, our proud, loyal Strongest fan Moderator, Chico has passed. Please leave your condolences here. He will be missed. Feel free to share stories or well wishes to our favorite moderator in the sky. I'll miss ya Chico, running into ya in DCU games. Thank you soooo much on helping me make that Etcheverry video years back, loaning me your videos. Really, one of the kindest persons I have ever met. He'd give you the shirt off of his back if you needed it. Loved the ribbing we gave each other here and on Facebook. May god take care of you upstairs brother. For you: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qwox3p940QE"]Homenaje al "Chupa" Riveros - YouTube[/ame] Say Hello to Chupa for us brother!
Sad news, i'm a new member but as i said i had been following these treads for some time. May god keep him close and may he give his family the strength to deal with the pain.
For those of us who knew him it was especially hard..he was my Bolivian big bro...hermano... descansa en paz...
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! I'm literally speechless. What an absolute kick in the stomach. I hadn't seen him post in a while and after Bolivar classified in Libertadores last night I'd figured I'd log on today and Chico would have been one of the posters to give the cholis fans a hard time about their team. Instead I find these very sad news. I never met him personally but I can say that I consider him as close to a friend as someone can be over an internet forum. I had lurked BigSoccer years before I ever joined but never felt compelled to join. It wasn't until I saw Chico echoing my feelings of the current state of our futbol that I was finally motivated to join. He had become a constant on these boards throughout the years and he welcomed me as no other and made me a part of our small community. If it wasn't for Chico we still wouldn't have a Bolivia forum on Big Soccer. His humor, kindness and love for Strongest/DcUnited will be sorely missed. My condolences to his family. Chico, I hope you're having a saltena and a cold one with Chupa Riveros and cabezon Sanchez. QEPD
Yes, he helped us get people together to give us our section! RIP Chico.... thank you!! I am sure he is.

I'm just heartbroken. So many memories over the last 13-14 years. Joe's taking it even harder. We will miss him.
Wow, Chico touched a lot of peoples lives. I hope his family is aware of the impact he had. Will try to catch their game tonight. Don't know what happened Marco, but apparently he was having health issues. I'd hate to speculate though.
This is very sad news. Not knowing him personally I always liked what he wrote even if he was poking fun. I had been a lurker of thIs forum for a long time before I joined and thanks to CHICO18, this forum actually exists. I can say that I'm not surprised he made an impact on so many people. I'm very saddened by this but I'm glad I got to share topics of convo with him (and all you other guys) on BS. RIP Chico
I've met Chico a few times before La norte split from La Barra. Oscar wasn't very happy with us, and we almost got into a confrontation with Oscar as his ridicule was getting alittle out of hand and tough to ignore. Things were getting very heated to the point where some of us just gave each other that look to just Jump the guy. Chico came out of nowhere and practically challenged all of us as things were getting heated. If it was anyone else, I think it would have been a very messy night. Most of us were very young adults with very high testosteron. Many of us had just finished kicking serious ass in NY, and were feeling confident. We all admired and respected Chico. Nothing happend. Forgive and forget. Chico still embraced us and treated us like family afterwards. THe last game I attended, was the only game I attended in 2011. I was happy to cheer with Chico, a true die hard fan. Prior to that game, the last time we cheered with Chico was in the 90's. Personally, I was looking forward to seeing Chico more often at the DC Ultras tail gate as he seemed destined to join them. I truly feel like crap. I haven't posted here for a long ass time because I forgot my password for BS and the email account this account is associated with. I spent about an hour getting all this situated. I couldn't sleep until I posted something here. Chico asked who I met from here. I basically said no one. He was telling me of some of the people from BS that was cool (United and Bolivia), and mentioned MrNilo and I think Marco as the only people he hadn't chilled with. I think. He was looking forward to chilling with the both of you (I think!) over a cold beer cheering for the black and red. I offer that extention to you on his behalf. Chico was very warm to everyone, and probably funded 50% of RFK beer sales (90% of drinks going towards new and old friends). Screw it, I extend that invitation to everyone here. Maybe when bolivia plays whoever, we can plan something out and do a salute for our brother. These boards and RFK will be missing amazing character; the void left behind can never be replaced. VAMOS VERDE!!!
Good stuff! I am down to have a Big Soccer get together in his honor. The dedication they had fgor him by the Barra' was beautiful last night. I'll get more pics up when I can.

I haven't been active in BS for many years now; I just came here, after reading a new article, to express my condolences to his family and everyone that knew him. I didn't know him well but I've seen many of his insightful posts here on BS for over 8 years and I'm sad as many of you because of his passing. R.I.P CHICO
We're not very concerned about membership and non memberships but rather friendship, but for record Chico got ours every year since we started Many of his oldest and closest friends are in DU so when 4 of us were painting his tribute yesterday it was very surreal that just couple weeks before four of us and Chico were watching DC away game in same house. Chico's one of rare guys that's well beyond any petty groupings rest of us mortals have And you Bolivar fans don't be bitter, it's his mom's club. Hilarious to hear about them going at it When we get some good pictures I'll post them here, it was 12th minute of silence with rest of stadium then in 13th we lit all smoke we had, raised all flags and went nuts the proper way he'd want us to. This is what I posted on DU facebook group Tue night, so just to share with you few little stories about what an incredible man he was: Earlier tonight DC supporters lost a man who I think is the most influential person to ever walk our stands. Many of you knew Chico but for those who didn't have the privilege allow me to share a few of my experiences. In 2004 Chico was the first person who approached me at United game (tidbit that I apparently share ridiculous amount of DC supporters). If it wasn't for him I might not have come back. Later that year, when I was broke (from making banners, heh) and had no money to go to LA for the cup he offered to pay for my plane, then let me stay with him whole weekend. He knew me for less than 4 months at the time. During mid 2000s trips to Columbus it was Chico who drove vans, there and back, so rest of us monkeys could drink during the trip. He just wanted us to have fun. People say that someone would give you a shirt of their back, but he literally did. I have more jerseys of The Strongest than Dinamo, more from Bolivia than Croatia. In 2010, when he couldn't make it to RFK regularly due to health, and we were a tiny struggling group, Chico bought a ticket from us for every game then let us resell it. I think half of DU tifo that year was financed by his tickets. He was the kindest, most generous person I have ever known. He lived without regret and fear and truly was the biggest inspiration and greatest friend one could ask for. On Wednesday game (and every other, but especially this one), please honor his memory by giving your 100% for 90 minutes. That's all he ever asked for.
