"Hopefully, we're not going to be tempted by something that makes us lose 'Esky." Is he just blowing smoke again or are we going for Eskandarian with the first pick?
"I'm really hoping that we get the foreign No. 9 in place before the start of the season. We've identified him and negotiations are going on now. We actually have two in mind, so if the first one falls through, I'll be quite happy with the second pick. We also have another international player identified that will hopefully be in here by February." - RH LET THE WILD SPECULATION BEGIN
When I first saw the title to this thread, I thought it would be an online chat with Ray himself. That would've been cool. Hmmm, maybe we should invite him to the next Happy Hour.
My concern wasn't the two strikers it was the Gazza person Gazza who Gazza is Gazza available Gazza in Gazza February.
To be honest, I don't know much about Osario but Nunez is a bona fide talent. A little on the small side (about 5'7" or 5' 8") but stocky and lightning fast.. Despite his size, he does do very well in the air.. Nunez is the Honduran player who torched Brad Friedel for two goals in a 3-2 Honduras win at RFK during World Cup qualifying - the first home loss by the USA since 1985 in WC qualifying.. The score does not indicate how badly the USA were outplayed on the day.. Nunez was an absolute terror... Nunez has just recently run out of contract in the Mexican League and also played in Costa Rica as well..
Nunez: HonduraS national team Forward. Extremely quick and very strong although limited in height. Makes up for height with a great leaping ability and tenacity you don't see often among MLS strikers, maybe Twellman, Ruiz. Scored 2 goals against the USA at RFK in the US's 3-2 loss to Honduras in World Cup Qualifying. Also made DC united's defenese look silly many time when DC played Comunicaciones of Guatemala, Tyson's old team. I believe this would be a very big signing, almost as big as Ruiz was for LA. I don't know anything about Osario
Gettin Tyson would be so...damn that would be good. I like the idea of Escandarian as competition for Quaranta.
anyone got Nunez' age? I will say again, I have never seen live a ball struck as hard into the net as one of his goals against the US at RFK. I thought that ball was crushed. I would be extremely excited if we could land him. Certainly having Milton here helps our chances. I wonder how he'd work up front with Q1.
just googled him -29 it looks like. Hmm same age as Jaime. and I found this interesting tidbit from a Sunderland board -- and also have seen in several places that he's listed at 5'5". To paraphrase Ray Hudson, "I've got bleedin' underwear bigger than 5'5"!" Sunderland misfit Tyson Nunez is destined to leave the Stadium of Light after a very unhappy period. There has bean a lot of interest from clubs in Honduras but they are unable to pay the £1.5m asking price. Sunderland have been ringing up clubs to see if they are interested in buying him and are likely to settle for a much lower price to get him off their wage bill. The 5'5" striker has only played one first team game when he came on as substitute for ten minutes. The club are desperate to let him go after reports in Honduras claim he called Peter Reid a racist due to the fact that there are no black players at the club, these comments have upset the board.
I think if we get him, rumor is we move Quaranta. This is new to me but several people had mentioned it on another message board. I don't know, salary wise, why we would get rid of Q1, but if we are getting value for value...I don't know. It would have to be exceptional value. I like Q1 playing here, but he has gotta show something this year. I'd like a front line of Tyson and Ali. KNOCKOUT KINGS 2003!
http://www.uslecce.it/squadra/osorio.asp I think it boils down to 2 goals in 19 games in Serie A, though he did well in Argentina.
If Santino and Alecko are the strikers, wouldn't it make sense for Quintanillia to play behind them? He seemed quite good at playing the killer through ball. Never mind about that question. I understand about all the "other considerations."
Diego Maradonna was 5'5". Not meaning to insult Diego with the comparison or let anyone think I'm making a reference to them playing anywhere near the same level. But, what I mean is... Height isn't an issue, if he can play. Although, I don't necessarily want another European pine-rider in an MLS Starting XI. But, such is the state of our league. It will continue to improve. Hudson again, a brilliant array of memorable quotes.
I think the first time Petke and Moreno tangle will show that the rivalry is just as vivid as ever. Then after Richie levels Convey a few times, and Kovalenko takes a run at Eddie, things should ratchet up another notch or two. Definitly won't be as much fun rooting against the Tards, but the play on the field should be full of fireworks.
One of the nice things about a press pass is that it has enabled me to meet many of the players. I shook Tyson Nunez' hand and told him good game, after the Cumminaciones match. I was surprised that he answered me with an unaccented and genuine, "Thank you." Anyway, the point of this post is that I am 5'8 and I was looking way down at him. 5'5 seems very generous to me. I would submit he is no taller than 5'3. However, I would love to see him with United as he is one of the most exciting players I saw at RFK last year. I just checked a media guide and saw that Richie Williams is listed at 5'5, which I also doubt is accurate. Thinking back, the two seem about the same height to me.
