Does anyone know what teams are publicly traded or where to find that information? I know of a few: Lyon Stuttgart Celtic But I'm sure there are others
Stuttgart most definitely isn't. The only publicly traded German club, although only in a limited fashion, is Dortmund.
I think you're right, the place I got that information from seems kind of outdated. And thus the problem finding out this answer, trying to find reliable information.
I went to Dortmund's Wikipedia article, and under "categories," there was one for "publicly traded sports companies." Benfica Copenhagen Istres Juventus Lazio Olympique Lyonnais Millwall Porto Preston North End Rangers (?) Roma Sheffield United Sporting Tottenham Watford Any of those could be wrong, as it is Wikipedia.
Have any NASL teams gone this route? I know the single entity system in MLS would make this unlikely if not impossible, but what about D2?
It's not impossible, but I think being as young a league as it is, that no ownership groups would be all that interested in trying it. If an argument can be made for the other side, I'd love to hear it.
I know the concept was floated to save AC St Louis. Although my guess is the finances were in such a mess there was no way that would have worked. Similar ideas have been floated about the Lions to move them from PDL to USL-Pro (or even eventually NASL).
Oviedo are going to sell shares this week. They are having financial problems and see it as a possible way out. http://www.insidespanishfootball.com/sos-real-oviedo/
