8513 I wonder if these people, giving the ratings at VI, have a true vision of how a player performed? https://www.vi.nl/pro/psv-in-cijfers-twee-schoten-op-doel-gasiorowski-ruimt-veel-op PSV in numbers: two shots on goal, Gasiorowski cleans up a lot "PSV took a point in the Champions League on Tuesday evening on a visit to Olympiakos Piraeus. Deep in injury time, substitute Ricardo Pepi made it 1-1. These are the most important statistics of the duel, in which PSV hardly created anything and Yarek Gasiorowski cleaned up extremely much at the back." 58' Guus Til is replaced by Ricardo Pepi In the 93rd minute, the second and final shot on goal followed and that turned out to be worth a point. With his only touch of the ball in the penalty kick area and the only shot, substitute Ricardi Pepi made it 1-1. So, the player preventing PSV from being put down with more goals for a certain defeat is "awarded" a 6, and a player, who's only contribution in 30 minutes was one touch in the box with a goal, true an important goal, is "awarded" a 7, but the guy who made it possible that that goal wasnot meaningless by performing the whole match very well to keep hope alive is rated less. The other attackers were deservedly rated low for delivering one shot on target in the first half, but to give Pepi a 2 point bonus for the goal over the other attackers and 1 point bonus over the player who kept PSV alive is truly amazing.
Pepi was in the last minutes of the game on target. The striker scored from a free kick by Joey Veerman, who first found Jerdy Schouten. 'The ball should have been for me, but I saw that it came to Jerdy. I stayed more backwards and eventually it came out as intended. It feels great, I want to do my best for the team. Scoring is my job, that's what I've done now.' Pepi scored as a substitute. 'It's hard not to play,' he confessed to Ziggo. 'You don't see everything that goes on behind the scenes and I can't just share it with the world. It's not easy to stay calm, but I have to deal with it and I think I'm doing it well. This was a team effort, on to the next game.' For the time being, Pepi will continue, even if Peter Bosz continues to use him as a substitute. 'The coach and I have conversations, sometimes one-on-one. I have to make do with his decisions and be ready for what is coming.' For the upcoming international period, Pepi has one more chance to play minutes at PSV: away against AZ. After that, they will play against NAC Breda and Liverpool. Agüero and Cristiano Ronaldo With his late goal against Olympiakos, Pepi put himself in a special list. The American was in the past in the extra time in the Champions League matches against Sevilla (2-3 win) and Shakhtar Donetsk (3-2 win) already on target. In Champions League history, there were only two players who also scored three goals in the extra time of the second half and thus influenced a result. They were none other than Sergio Agüero and Mister Champions League Cristiano Ronaldo
8613 Yeah, I like him too. He really has big potential, but atm. he's limited as a striker. Telling is that in his 30 minutes on the pitch his only shot on target was the result of a free kick, so a set piece goal. He's too much the attack end station, so dependent on support/supply. A bit like Jozy Altidore, great end station, but as Dick Advokaat told him that he wasnot a top striker yet, because his goals were reacting to what his fellow players created, and not yet directing/conducting how he wants the attack to unfold. Dick told Jozy he wasnot ready yet for a transfer, and this can be said of Pepi too. Potential is big, but it needs maturing into a complete striker. The PSV midfield had too much to do in helping the wingbacks to contain the 2 Portuguese wingers (Dest was exposed) it could be the reason why they had little contribution to the attack.
8746 Well, let there be light. This weekend the festival Glow takes place again until next Saturday. This 20iest edition is called "The Light".
8794 Bosz: 'At some point, Pepi will be PSV's first striker again'. The coach of the Eindhoven team also thinks about the long term with the club. The story is well-known. Pepi is on the bench because Guus Til is currently doing well as a striker at PSV. But the American now agrees that he is on the bench, as Bosz hinted prior to the match. 'I don't think you should make a decision based on one match, because then it would be a dovecote', said Bosz about the match against Olympiakos in the Champions League, in which Pepi played a starring role. 'I also try to have a long-term view. The long term is that Pepi is a striker, Pepi is our striker and that he is our first striker. But he has to be fit.' 'If I go back to the beginning of the season, when Lasso got injured. Then I put Pepi in the line-up, because I didn't have anything else,' said Bosz, who saw that Pepi suffered a slight injury as a result. 'He also got a slight injury to his hamstring. He is still not completely back now, but with those two in front you now have a bit more peace as a trainer. But Pepi will be the first striker again at some point.'
9165 PSV's performance goes around the world: 'After the Italian champion, now also the English' PSV's great Champions League performances are also noticed abroad. The Eindhoven team previously outclassed Napoli 6-2 and also won Wednesday with 1-4 against the English champion Liverpool. A tour of the international media. "PSV humiliates Liverpool," wrote the Spanish Mundo Deportivo. 'PSV defeated a struggling Premier League champion 4-1. Last year, the Eindhoven team was the only team to beat Liverpool in the league stage, and on Wednesday they did it again. Peter Bosz's team sowed panic at Liverpool from the start. The humiliating defeat was completed in injury time by Driouech's second goal.' "After beating the Italian champion, they also beat the English champion," complimented the German Kicker PSV. 'Bosz didn't make any changes to his line-up and with Kovar, Perisic and Til, there were again many former Bundesliga players in it. Furthermore, PSV's substitutes made themselves heard. Pepi took advantage of a mistake by Konaté and Driouech even made two.' 'The Reds were convincingly defeated by PSV,' according to the Italian Corriere dello Sport. 'Quite surprising, four goals against at home. Slot's Liverpool crisis seems endless as they continue their disastrous Champions League losing streak.' The Portuguese A Bola saw PSV treat Liverpool to 'a nightmare'. 'The Reds lost at home with 1-4 to the Dutch champion. The inevitable question: how long can Arne Slot remain manager of Liverpool? Bosz's team, logically, took advantage of the counterattack and the space they were given to score. Another night of terror for Liverpool. The bad atmosphere seems to linger at Anfield and Slot is in an increasingly precarious position.' 'Bosz's team was considered underdog at Anfield', concluded the French L'Équipe. 'But Liverpool suffered another bitter defeat. Slot and his men have been going through a very painful period in recent weeks.' The newspaper saw Virgil van Dijk become the schlemiel of Liverpool. 'Liverpool conceded the opening goal in the sixth minute, from a converted penalty kick by Ivan Perisic after a high handball by Virgil van Dijk. The Dutch central defender was also partly responsible for PSV's second goal, where he should have blocked the ball to Til.'
Very well deserved win by PSV who were extremely solid defensively, and held strong despite that shaky Czech GK Kovar who gifted Liverpool’s goal, saving from former PSV star Cody Gakpo, but pushed the ball right down the middle for the Hungarian energy machine Szoboszlai to equalize, and that was the end of Liverpool’s scoring on the night. PSV were efficient and very well organized, and much credit to Peter Bosz and the players who absolutely outstanding. As for Liverpool you could see Captain Virgil is no longer Superman, and has too much to account for as Konate, and Kerkez are just brutal defensively while Ryan Gravenberch has little cover in Midfield as Macallister has fallen apart as well. Cody up front is creating, and working hard, but the massively overrated Mo Salah does little and has zero work defensively. Frimpong still injured will bring energy and pace which will help Liverpool a lot, but Arne Slot is getting slammed by numerous ignorant supporters who have no clue. Big waste of money on Isak Wirtz and Kerkez who I all find to be massively overrated. Great night for PSV and Dutch football which is struggling mightily in Europe this season.
9268 A night for the ages: PSV rip through Liverpool at Anfield in 4-1 win PSV picked up a sensational win in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday evening, beating the English league champions Liverpool 4-1 away at Anfield. Ivan Perisic, Guus Til, and a double from Couhaib Driouech topped off a historic night for the Eindhovenaren. With this win, PSV became just the second team ever to score four goals at Anfield after Real Madrid had done so in February 2023. Driouech also became only the second ever PSV player to come off the bench and score twice in the UEFA Champions League/European Cup since Nick Deacy in 1975. There were no surprises in PSV’s team, with Peter Bosz going for the same 11 players that have performed so well for the reigning champions over the last few weeks. Liverpool started the game with three Oranje internationals in Virgil Van Dijk, Cody Gakpo, and Ryan Gravenberch. Jeremie Frimpong started on the bench. Liverpool is managed by former Eredivisie winner Arne Slot. And it was Van Dijk who impacted the game in a negative way within the first few minutes. The Oranje and Liverpool captain inexplicably hit the ball out of the air using his arm after he felt he had been pushed for a corner. This resulted in a penalty, which Ivan Perisic converted to put the Eindhovenaren 1-0 up. Liverpool equalized in the 16th minute. Gakpo got his shot off on his right foot, and although it was saved by goalkeeper Matej Kovar, the rebound went straight to Dominik Szoboszlai, who placed it into the empty net. The home side came very close to taking the lead in the 28th minute. Once again, it was Gakpo causing his former club a headache with a good low cross to Mohamed Salah, but Anass Salah Eddine did extremely well to block the effort. Slot’s side kept ramping up the pressure with Van Dijk almost making up for his error in the 32nd minute. The center back was unmarked in the box from Salah’s corner, but he headed the effort onto the crossbar. PSV re-took the lead in the 56th minute. A sublime pass by Mauro Junior found Guus Til, who continued his fantastic form since being put in the striker position, tapping it home. Gakpo almost leveled the game in the second half when Szoboszlai found him at the far post with a cross, but the winger headed the chance over. The last 20 minutes of the game proved to be one of the most memorable ones for PSV as a club in a long time. First, Bosz’s side made it 3-1 when an error from Ibrahim Konate resulted in Ricardo Pepi hitting the post with a shot before Driouech was on hand to convert the rebound. This sent the traveling Eindhoven support into wild celebrations, and it got even better in injury time. A through ball found Sergino Dest in behind Van Dijk, and he laid it off to Driouech, whose finish was magnificent to make it 4-1. There was a sense of disbelief among the PSV supporters at the final whistle. Despite Liverpool’s poor form as of late, not many gave the Eindhovenaren a chance against the side that spent around 336 million euros on players last summer. PSV are in 15th place in the 36-team UEFA Champions League after the win, ahead of clubs like FC Barcelona and Juventus. The defeat will only serve to increase the pressure on Slot, who was also defeated 3-0 at home by relegation battlers Nottingham Forest last weekend.
9754 Pepi is criticized: 'Because of him, PSV does not get to play football' Ricardo Pepi is not playing his best game in the service of PSV. The striker hardly appears in the game against FC Utrecht. ESPN analyst Kees Kwakman explains what is wrong in Stadium Galgenwaard. 'Pepi plays very poorly, Dennis Man has been out of shape for weeks, then it's difficult to play football', Kwakman begins his analysis. 'If an opponent locks it up on the field, then Guus Til has to search more to pull Nick Viergever away.' The role of the striker is important in this, Kwakman believes. 'It has to be playable, that's where the ball has to go. But this is not Pepi's strong suit. He is not really a point of contact, but someone who needs to be put away, put to work by others. As a result, PSV does not get to play football.' This is the difference between Luuk de Jong and Pepi. LdJ was conducting the attack, orchestrating how it had to be executed. Pepi in fact with this critic gets the same remarks as Jozy Altidore from Dick Advocaat, who told him he wasnot atopstriker yet, because hereacts to what his fellow players do, instead of determining what his fellow players should do.
Pepi did provide the equalizer after halftime. 'This is what he stands for and a real top striker's goal. In the sixteen, deadly, a super nice goal. Then you can talk about playing football, but this is what Pepi stands for', said analyst Danny Koevermans after PSV's win (1-2).
I think that's an interesting and typically Dutch critique. They "can't play football" with him but he is also scoring nearly a goal per 90 (0.91 goals/90). That's a decent tradeoff for someone who supposedly doesn't have football skills.
9895 I already wondered why PSV went out buying strikers (Boadu, Plea), while they had Robin van Duiven in their Young PSV team. Now they have to fear to lose him for nothing as a transfer free player end of the season, and several foreign clubs already have set their eyes on him, being one of the topscorers in our second tier. PSV, despite Robin's qualities, have been delaying in making an offer to him and that now can become a costly error. Especially given the aim going to at least 50% first team players from the youth.
That will never happen!!! Look at their current roster. Their best MF talent Babadi gets sent out on loan rather than put into the rotation.
9954 So you're saying they talk the talk, but don't walk the walk. That in time will be detrimental to their aspiration to fill their academy with high talented players, as these will be looking at for instance the AZ academy with a proven path to the first team for those fit for it.
PSV are reportedly selling Pepi for 37 million Euro. Whoa!! That’s a very nice business for the club (per transfermarkt Pepi is valued at 15m). We’ll see if a replacement is brought in this transfer window (by tomorrow). I don’t think PSV are in any rush finding a replacement, now that they are out UCL and Eredivisie title is practically in the bag with their massive lead on top of the table. They also have Boadu coming back shortly.
I've been seeing more reports (including from Africafoot and some Dutch sources) that Earnest Stewart is looking seriously at Youssef Chermiti from Rangers. At 21 years old and 1.92m (6'3), he definitely fits the profile of a physical striker we might need if we want to evolve the attack. He’s had a bit of a rollercoaster at Rangers, but those 9 goals in Scotland this season (especially the brace in the Old Firm derby) show he has the "big game" temperament Bosz likes. The price tag being mentioned is around €10-12 million. Given he’s already played in the Portuguese league and briefly in the Prem with Everton, he’s got the international experience. Do you think he’s the right profile for our system? Or should we be looking for someone more "proven" if we’re going to spend that kind of money? Personally, I think his ceiling is huge under a coach like Peter Bosz.
12193 This is known about interests in him: After Feyenoord, PSV is watching Youssef Chermiti too: 'Double-digit million amount' Article by Dominic Mostert PSV is keeping an eye on the performance of Youssef Chermiti, according to the Eindhovens Dagblad. The 21-year-old striker of Rangers FC was already linked to Feyenoord in January, but now PSV also appears to have been following him for some time. "The Eindhoven club has explored or been offered several options at the beginning of this year, at the time that the striker situation was dire. Chermiti is one of the attackers who have already been reviewed at the club," writes journalist/PSVwatcher Rik Elfrink. Elfrink knows that Chermiti is closely followed by many more clubs. The Portuguese youth international played 34 official matches for Rangers this season, in which he scored 9 times and gave 2 assists. In February, he produced a hat-trick against leader Heart of Midlothian (4-2 win) and in March followed a double against Celtic (2-2) Chermiti was born in Portugal; his father is Tunisian-French and his mother is from Guinea-Bissau. After taking his first steps in professional football at Sporting Portugal, Chermiti moved to Everton in 2023 for at least 12.5 million euros. After 25 official matches for Everton, without a goal, Rangers took him over 8,6 million euros in 2025. According to Elfrink, Chermiti must now cost a 'double-digit number of millions'. In January, the Daily Record reported that Feyenoord had offered about fifteen million euros for Chermiti. His contract in Glasgow runs until mid-2029. Earlier it was already known that PSV also has Álvaro Rodriguez (Elche) and Mika Biereth (AS Monaco) in their sights.
Hmm.. then why don’t we see more teams scoring 100+ goals? The closest after PSV is NEC with 77 goals, then Feyenoord 70 goals. Huge gap!
The rest of the teams are quite bad as their European matches demonstrated. AZ have to be the most disappointing of all.
