Paris Saint-Germain chairman Francis Graille has revealed that he rejected an approach by Manchester United for Ronaldinho.

The Premiership champions have frequently been linked with the Brazilian since last summers World Cup, where he was instrumental in knocking England out of the competition.

The 23-year-old appears to be top of Sir Alex Ferguson's wanted list, although his French club are not keen to do business just yet.

"I turned down a meeting with Manchester United officials two weeks ago," Graille said.

"I am in frequent touch with Ronaldinho's agent and brother Roberto Assis and we will not make any further statement until the end of the month. There's nothing new."

Paris St Germain are due to listen to an approach for the player after the French Cup final at the end of the month.

To steal a line from Shakespeare, I think they doth protest too much. Since the end of the premiership season, there have been a number of stories about PSG denying the transfer. More stories about how they want to keep him. Even a bio on the Western Union show about how much he wants to stay. I think they are blowing smoke up the fans backsides at this point. They are covering. They will sell him for a ton of cash midsummer, and use this campaign to say that they only sold him after much deliberation due to the tough financial position they are in.

It's all a big mystery, a soap opera, only time will tell. Of course, with PSG's deficit, I don't see how they could keep him and not have to sell the rest of the team.

The new coach Hallihodzic (sp?) wants to keep him but I agree PBD, the money issue will force them to sell, OTOH, Ronaldinho could sit a just wait thihs year to pass and leave on a free (not likely given the situation)

Just as an aside, a front line of Ronaldinho and Van Nistelrooy will be a SICK partnership if it comes off. As an Arsenal fan I don't like the looks of those two running roughshot over the premiership next year, especially with my damn goalie!

The only plus on this (very early rumour) is that Becks is going to Barca (who I follow), which would be good because Saviola and Kluivert need his help!

I hope PSG refuse to sell him not because I am a PSG supporter but because it is about time teams refuse the players' blackmail. Ronaldinho owes a lot to PSG (especially his good world cup) and at 23 he can wait at least another year before he moves to another club.

Seems shocking when they are talking about 12.5 million pounds for Damien Duff.

I realize it's a depressed market, but he's worth more than 9 million. Of course, ManUtd may still be smarting from that huge Rio transfer from last offseason (35 million, iirc), so maybe they're trying to econmize this offseason. I think if you're PSG though, you string this out as long as you can, hope that they deal Becks to Barca for $ 30 million and then call Fergie and say "Hey, my man's at least half as good as Becks, so now that you've got $ 30 million, how about $ 15 million for mini-Ron?"

He's a damn steal at $ 9 million. That talent, that age? 9 million, a pack of cigarettes and an apology more like.

To me he is far far better than Beckham - miles ahead really. And he is 5 years younger. So if Beckham is worth 30m £, Ronnie is worth at least 40m £.
In fact (sorry for the Beckham fans), whatever club will be buying Beckham will be buying image rights rather than a (decent) player.

It depends how you look at it. Maybe Ronaldinho would prefer to stay another year, but since PSG would like to sell him while they can get a hefty transfer, he's willing to go a year early. I'm not saying this is the case, but if I were PSG and 15M pounds go down the drain when his contract runs out in a year, I would be crunching the numbers to see if one year of keeping him is really worth that much.

Not sure what you mean by this. I personally think it's too low, even in the current market. He is a better player in my mind than Beckham.

Is 9M pounds worth letting him go this year...that depends on the numbers crunching...in one yaer's time, his stock could rise, fall, he could get injured, could lead them to a title or far in the Champ's League(which would be worth a lot), and then there's the market.

I'm just saying that to blame the player for being selfish and not paying his dues to the club without knowing who really wants what is jumping to conclusions.

Totally agree with you on that last comment. This is the reason i believe Real Madrid want him and will get him. Ronaldinho will be a huge player if he remains focused and doesn't cave to the pressure. I mean PSG finished 8th or 9th and that's only the French league(no disrespect). Once again being the Merengues fan i am they should scoop a double and keep with their tradition of signing only the best. I almost guarantee Becks is off to Madrid and if they have the money why not rejoin Ronaldinho with his 2 Brazilian compadres. My frenzied brain cannot wait until La Liga is over for that is when the flood gates will burst open. Bring on the the transfers and as always Hala Madrid!
