Well, there is that internet thing you're on. :p

Same here, and as we both know, the "Green Credit" doesn't do anything but add to the first cost. That is when the product you're using to get the "Green Credit" actually works the way it's supposed to and isn't just "Green Washed".

That's also why engineers wonder what the hell the architect was thinking. ;)

They're not paid to wonder. They're paid to make it work.

I don't know how much made it into the final design, but the original idea was to have dual stadiums that shared one roof that could be moved between them. So the elements at one point were taken into account.

Edit: I take that back, the stadium designs were different.

I disagree, the majority of the architect's fee is paying off his consultants.

I'm sending the kids to school to be structural & mechanical/electrical engineers so I can get a break on consultants.

Has anyone looked at the plans to see what they're doing with the concourse. Currently the concourse level is at the top of the lower bowl. If they get rid of that and create separate entrances for the MLS portion and the bottom sections then they could possibly (not to say that they would) envision a scenario of having 3 events going on at the same time. Mr. Warmth, as the resident architect expert, do you think that's something that's feasible? I haven't looked at the plans in detail, but I think that's something that they would envision, and it still wouldn't have the same amount of traffic that there was back when the Lions played.

Also, I think that the cost estimates for renovating are way overpriced. Building costs in the metro area are still VERY low compared with other cities. That will bring down the price tag considerably. I honestly believe that $200m could do it for the Dome renovation with current building costs. Keep in mind the casinos downtown only cost $300-400 million to build from scratch (where land costs are much higher than in the suburbs). MGM also spent $86 million on their temporary casino, which is going to be (if not done already) converted into a huge movie studio in an attempt to move some of the filmmaking business to downtown Detroit.

Also, to comment on an earlier point about the parking, there is not enough parking in the Dome parking lot to accomodate 80,000 people. I think it's more like 25,000. Many people would use makeshift auxiliary lots both right next door and across M-59 on Opdyke (where the Dome is located) there was a huge field that was used for parking on gamedays. The majority of fans parked offsite, and the Dome parking lot was mainly people with parking passes.

i would love to see the silverdome turned into an open air soccer stadium... but i just cant imagine how much its going to cost to put 2 lower levels into the depths of the silverdome.

i just dont think that there is THAT much interest in soccer in detroit to fill or even partially fill a 30,000 seat stadium... i hope i am wrong on this..

but there could be some tremendous rivalry going on with Chicago, TFC, C-Bus, Philly...

It's a big ask for any country to fill 30,000 stadia, much less a city in the throes of deindustrialization like Detroit.

I'm trying to wrap my brain around the rooftop SSS. I don't think they could use the current upper deck and just build a pitch in the mmiddle. It could be like a Euro stadium with a track around it, that may also be in the plans. I could imagine it if the rotated the pitch 90 deg and move it towards one end.build a new side with luxury boxes. The stadium in Monaco is a rooftop track and pitch. I'm anxious to see some actual plans and models.

Interesting...I just looked that up and that was quite recent (early July), which was probably the reason I hadn't heard of it.

Would the lieing , fake Mitch Albom please go away...

I really can't believe any of this is true. I hope they can work all of this out and bring this to metro Detroit. We need it and I think MLS would benefit from the TFC, Chicago & Columbus rivalries as well.

This thread has run it's course. We can sit here and speculate all we want but fact is the owners of the Silverdome have money and they will do what they want with that money.
