San jose opens up their MLS campaign at Spartan in about three weeks. Seeing as how I'm not in the area, I was wondering how the promotion for the game has been going (if at all.) If it is lacking, what kind of things do you suggest they improve upon? I'm curious if the AEG influence has made any difference compared to prior seasons (though last year isn't the best for comparison.) Thanks, Charles
One "promotion" revolves around mini-plan season tickets. In the past, you've been able to choose six matches, selection up to you, which works great for people who have to pick and choose their Quakes games. Some of those people are also CyberRays fans who, because of the DH arrangement for the Quakes opener, already have tickets to that home opener because they have C-Rays tix. But the Quakes, in their wisdom, have forced the inclusion of the home opener in their mini-plans, which means if you are a Quakes-and-Rays fan, you won't be purchasing a mini-plan this year.
What promotion? I haven't seen one television commercial, one newspaper add or heard one radio announcement about the Quakes or the season tickets This is not the time to be doing this anyway, they should have started at least a month ago, this isn't the way to put butts in the seats. Maybe they're trying to get the team moved by claiming poor attendance, who knows what they're up to.
The Home Opener will be the double header with the Cyberrays on the 19th. It won't be the 'Ray's opener, they also play April 5th at Spartan. On the 19th, CyberRays play Washington Freedom at 4:30, EQs play Wizards at 7pm. First 10K fans get seat cushions. See Brandi, Mia, Landon, Josh Wolff. There is some promotion, but not a lot. One would wish to see a lot more effort devoted to marketing the DH. DougO
Better late than never, but they'd better get their rears in gear. I agree BK, they need to start doing something, because so far we've seen diddly-squat.
That's not true. After the home opener, you are able to order whatever games you want in your mini-plan. Not saying it's the best laid out plan, but don't give out misinformation. Hey, look at my sig! Shameless self promotion!
I'm looking at the Earthquakes ticket site, checking out mini-plans. Every mini-plan includes the following message: "Game 1 and Game 2 Are Built Into This Mini Plan and may not be exchanged." There are currrently no mini-plans being offered that don't include Games 1 and 2. Therefore, as I stated, if you already have tickets to Game 1 because it's a DH w/Rays, you either buy extra tickets for Game 1, or don't buy a mini-plan. If the above is misinformation, I'd very much like to hear about it.
This is the case for now. Try buying a mini-plan after the first two home games of the season and see if they still force you to buy tickets for games that have already been played.
Well duh, I know what you're saying. But what that means is they are encouraging me to postpone buying a mini-plan, which doesn't make a lot of sense. Take my own example ... I'll be at the first two matches, then I won't be able to get out to Spartan until Columbus in late June. What happens if, God forbid, the Quakes only manage 10 points from their first 10 matches. Attendance is under 10,000 a night ... I can go to tickets.com at any time and get seats near midfield in the 10th row. I decide I'll just go once in awhile on a whim, and end up taking in only 3 or 4 matches. Or they can take my money right now and I'm there for six matches minimum. What's the point, from their perspective?
I agree .... this mini plan idea is stupid. I have to wait until after the home opener to buy the miniplan because i already have tickets to the home opener. i'd rather buy them now and get better seats. but oh well... dumb ol' quakes strike again. heaven forbid they make it easy for fans to attend their games.
No. You guys are all wrong. They're great at calling people who have already purchased season tix. What the hell have they been doing for the last 6 months?
As much as I hate to say it, I don't think you will suffer much in the way of getting good seats. I got the mini plan last year (season tix this year )but ended up attending all but one home match. I just bought tickets on game day and almost always had a choice of good seats, never even had to choose a different section. Good for me, bad for the Quakes
