i apologize if this topic has been brought up before, but i'm curious as to who could be in the starting lineup for Portugal come june 04. (i'm not 'in the know' in terms of the ongoings of the portugese NT)

it will be interesting to see which Golden Boys will get dropped for the next generation of high flyers (Quaresma, Ronaldo, Viana, Postiga and Co.)

also, how are Deco's chances of cracking the top XI?

    Boa-Rui Costa-Maniche-Figo

    Costinha

    Valente-Ricardo-Jorge Andrade-Paulo

    Ricardo

I think Scolari will have Figo , Rui , Pauleta..as his starters.

Postiga , Hugo Viana..will have to play better and get more EPL minutes or they probably wont be on the squad or ride the bench

    Just wondering...

What about Christiano Ronaldo? He is not good enough to start, but will he be on the roster?

    -----------------Ricardo--------------------
    P. Ferreira--Carvalho--Andrade--Rui Jorge
    ----------------Costinha--------------------
    Figo----Tiago----Deco
    Pauleta-----Ronaldo

    Others who are possible:

    Rui Costa
    Boa Morte
    Simao
    Miguel
    Quaresma

Portugal have to play with youth, if they play all the veterans...they seem to play at a much slower pace...a good mixture of youth and experience could ensure a good showing at Euro 2004 and qualification for WC 2006

Here is the real lineup for Euro 2004

    22 players

    1) Goal = Ricardo

    2) Goal = Morieria

    Defence Ricardo Carvelho
    Miguel
    Fernado Counto
    Ricardo Rocha
    Fernado Meira
Rui Jorge ( His Left foot )
    Jorge Andrate
    Nuno Valente

    Midfield = Luis Figo
    = Rui Costa
    = Deco
    = Simeo Sabrosa
    = Nuno Machie
    = Fransico Costinha
    = Tiago
    = Ricardo Quaresma

    Strikers = Pedro Pauletta
    = Nuno Gomes
    = Cristiano Ronoldo
    = Arzia Makakulu

This would be Portugal best team that they can put on the field good mix of experience and youth.

Sorry but Makakula deserves to be on this team ahead of Postiga. Makakula has scored 7 goals in Spain. And Nuno Machie desrves to be called up ahead of Hugo Vianna.

    --------------------Ricardo

    P.Ferreira----J.Andrade----R.Carvalho----R.Jorge

    -------------Costinha-----Maniche

    ------Rui Costa------Deco---------Figo

    ---------------------Pauleta

Ricardo has the best quality/experience combination out of all the keepers. Moreira is too young, Baia is too insecure.
Ferreira is a better defender than Miguel, Couto is way past it, Meira plays great for Stuttgart but has yet to convince me in the national team, and Rui Jorge is there by default.

Costinha & Maniche, this is the best CM pairing we have.

We play with one true winger (Figo can switch between left and right) but we put our best midfielders on the pitch at the same time.

Pauleta is the only reliable goalscorer we have at the moment.

Quaresma needs to learn how to cross, Ronaldo needs to learn how to pass, Viana needs to learn how to tackle, Postiga needs to learn how to finish and Tiago needs to learn the meaning of the term "workrate". Until then they can all stay in the U21's.

You know it shocks me with all the experts in Portuguese soccer we have on this board that Simao Sabrosa is not on everyone"s list is just a joke. He is a excellent player. Also Moriera should be on the team because he has the things that make all great soccer goalies

    1) Quick like a cat

    2) Never Guesses

    3) Very Clam under pressure

    4) Tremdeous Focus.

So you are trying to tell me that Quimm Silva is a better pick then Moriera i do not think so. Frank Victor Biaia does not belong anywhere on a international field he is no longer as quick as he was

But he gueses always and has horrible focus
